Congress ratifies bill penalizing catcalling, other forms of sexual harassment in public spaces

The Congress has ratified the bicameral conference report for the safe spaces bill which seeks to penalize catcalling and gender-based sexual harassment in streets, public and online spaces, workplaces, and educational institutions.

The bill also seeks to penalize offenses including sexist slurs, unwanted comments on one’s appearance, relentless requests for one’s personal details such as name, contact and social media details or destination.
