PNP Responders defeat AFP Cavaliers

MAKATI CITY, Philippines – Triple header brought heart-pounding action as the UNTV Cup Season 5 second round elimination began at the University of Makati Gymnasium on Sunday.

In the main game, the battle between defending champion AFP Cavaliers and three-time runner up team PNP Responders was championship caliber.

The Cavaliers was leading the first to third quarter, when the Responders paved the way to their win with final scores 82 – 67.

Responders guard Julius Criste was hailed as the best player of the game after drilling 22 points, 2 rebounds and 2 stills.

PNP Responders Head Coach Ernie Sta. Cruz, “Nag-usap kami, we’re going to focus on defense. At the same time, yun ang iprinipare namin bago kami maglaro ng second round.”

While AFP Cavaliers Head Coach CPL. Cornelio “Sonny” Manucat III admitted, “I must admit mas gusto nilang manalo ngayon [ the PNP is more driven to win this time ]. I have to give credit to PNP.”

In the second game, the savage MMDA Black Wolves clawed away a victory from the NHA Builders, ending an 8-point clash, 87-79.

Jeffrey Sanders who made 13 points, 11 rebounds, 7 assists, 2 steals and 2 blocks was hailed as the best player of the game alongside Maximo Guittap who contributed 16 points and 5 rebounds.

The MMDA now has 4 games won and 3 games lost, while the NHA has a 3-4 win-loss record and is now at the bottom spot.

And in the first game of the triple header, two-time champ Judiciary Magis elevate to 2nd place after winning over the BFP Firefighters with scores 76-67.

Hailed as the best player of the game was Chester Tolomia for collecting 25 points, 7 rebounds, 2 assists and 1 steal.
