MANILA, Philippines — They may be a rookie, but there’s no doubting their determination.

Though it’s not yet a month since the team was formed, the BOC Transformers of the Bureau of Customs is more than ready to face the veteran teams of UNTV Cup.

The Transformers is the newest addition to the teams playing on UNTV Cup.

Team BOC will be guided by PBA Legend Kenneth “Captain Marbel” Duremdes as playing coach

“As a former Senate Defenders player, playing coach alam ko kung gaano kabigat itong liga na to, itong tournament na ito. As I keep saying to my players na hindi ito tournament na tournament lang. Malakas ang players, ang team naghahanda talaga dito.”

(As a former Senate Defenders player, playing coach, I know how tough this league (UNTV Cup) is. As I keep telling my players, this is not just any ordinary tournament. The players and the teams here are good and well-prepared.)

Former Barangay Ginebra Center Marlou Aquino said, “Siyempre, unang una leadership, depensa, rebound, saka guidance para doon sa mga employee ng Bureau of Customs.

( [I will be a help] of course, firstly, in leadership, defense, rebound and guidance for the employees of the Bureau of Customs.)

While PBA Multi-team point guard Gherome Ejercito gushed, “I play basketball, passion ko na. Lalo ito mapupunta sa charity, talagang ganado ka kasi marami kang matutulungan na mga tao.”

(I play basketball. This is my passion. Now that the proceeds will go to charity, the more I am determined because I will be able to help a lot of people.)

According to Customs Commissioner Nicanor Faeldon, he personally chose the name the team because one of his inspirations in joining UNTV Cup, is to transform the image of the Bureau of Customs.

“Para mas maging friendly ang dating namin sa taumbayan. Ito ay para ilapit sa taumbayan ang Customs, hindi pwedeng i-isolated ang Customs. Yung tagumpay ng Customs ay hindi magagampanan ng Bureau mag-isa. Kailangan din naming ang suporta ng taumbayan, ”

( [We joined UNTV Cup] to make our image to the public more friendly. We need to bring the Customs close to the public. We cannot be isolated. The success of Customs cannot be achieved by the bureau alone. We need the support of the public. )

Even though the BOC Transformers is new to the league, they want to win this 5th season of the UNTV Cup.

” Yung team natin hindi dahil bago yan ay hindi natin hinahangad na manalo. There’s no timeline to win.

(Our team, just because we’re new doesn’t mean we don’t desire to win. There’s no timeline to winning.  Just like in the transformation of an agency, you don’t need 10 years to make a change, you just need sincerity.)
