It was a slow start for the GSIS Furies as their main gunners are not on the floor, Rene Boy Banzali and James Abugan.
DOJ Justice Boosters, led by Justine Lopez, controlled the first 6 minutes of the game.
But when GSIS scored combo when Banzali and Abugan stepped in, the flow of the game changed.
From 12-5 lead of DOJ until 2:15, the lead was cut to 1, 12-11 at 1:35, after as six-point run from Banzali and Abugan.
The first quarter ended with 15-13, still in favor of DOJ.
The second quarter was a drought for both teams with a low scoring percentage. DOJ shot 5/19 (26%) while GSIS with 2/10 (20%).
Remel De Viterbo led the DOJ with 5 points in this quarter together with Christian Cruz’ 4 points.
While Banzali, Abugan and Ilano contributed 3 points each.
It’s 29-24 at the half with DOJ on the lead.
The 3rd quarter was a roller-coaster ride.
With a 9-0 run GSIS took the lead by 1 point, 33-32, after a fastbreak from playing coach Rene Boy Banzali at 6:18.
With a 14-0 run at 5:07, a connected 3-point shot by Kenneth Ilano, blew the lead to 6, 38-32.
And GSIS further piled the lead as much as 10 points but with 12-3 run, DOJ fought back ending the 3rd quarter with just a lead by the GSIS, 48-47.
In the final period, DOJ Justice Boosters emerged as the better team shooting 55% in the field compared to a poor 29% FG production of the GSIS Furies.
Paul Lagunzad and Jose Marie Villegas led the DOJ in scoring with 7 points each while Kenneth Ilano carried GSIS with 9 points.
This 7-point edge of DOJ Justice Boosters in the 4th quarter scoring 24-17 against the GSIS Furies was enough to attain victory with the final score 71-65.

In the other games, Department of Agriculture Food Masters defeated the Ombudsman Graft Busters, 85-67.
Sherwin Silva (15 points, 7 rebounds, 3 assists, 3 steals and 1 block) and Henry Fernandez (23 points, 4 rebounds and 1 assist) bagged the Best Player of the Game award.
While the Malacañang-PSC Kamao stunned the Judiciary Magis in a championship-caliber game, 74-70.
Eric Dela Cuesta who produced 20 points, 10 rebounds, 1 assist and 2 steals received the best player honor. — UNTV New Media
