PNP Responders, new champions of UNTV Cup off-season games

Posted on: July 31st, 2018

MANILA, Philippines — The colonels and generals of the Philippine National Police (PNP) remained undefeated at the end of UNTV Cup off-season Executive Face-off at the Smart Araneta Coliseum last night, Monday (July 30).

PNP Responders executed an intensive offense strategy against the Ombudsman Graft Busters to earn the P1-million cash prize as champions.

2018 Off-season game’s Most Valuable Player PSupt. Joel de Mesa spearheaded the Responders after gaining 17 pts, 10 rebounds, 2 assists and 3 steals.

PNP has shown extreme hustle defense that limited Ombudsman’s key players Atty. Jorge Espinal to 10 points and Atty. Armando Sanchez Jr. to 14 points.

The Graft Busters had 28 forced turnovers in the game.

The police took advantage of heeding over 20 points forward from first quarter until the buzzer sounded at the end, 81-53.

“Maraming salamat sa Dios, sa pamilya ko sa lahat lahat. Sa buong PNP maraming maraming salamat. Sa mga players, maraming salamat kasi hindi sila bumitaw, saka yun ang talagang naging motivation namin itong Executive sana makuha namin since nabigo kami doon sa regular season,” said PNP Responders head coach SPO2 Alfred Suarez.

For the Ombudsman, the injury of Director Nicky Laure was a great loss to the team.

Laure has been hailed thrice as best player in the elimination rounds.

Though they failed to win their first championship in the league of public servants, the Ombudsman Graft Busters are still happy with their current standing — the highest they have ever reached since joining the UNTV Cup.

While the off-season games were wrapping it up, various teams have started their preparations for the upcoming UNTV Cup Season 7 in September where the champion stands to gain P4 million. — Bernard Dadis | UNTV News & Rescue
