Special Assistant to the President Christopher “Bong” Go produced a total 44 points with five 3-point shots to carry the Malacañang-PSC Kamao to the win column of the UNTV Cup Executive Face-off after beating the GSIS Thunder Furies, 105-79.
With his career-high performance, SAP Bong Go was hailed as the Best Player of the Game.
“Salamat at naka-tsamba po kami for our very first win of the executive season po. At masaya po ako ang daming fans ng UNTV na nandito napa-pump up ang team namin. Congratulations din po sa UNTV management, kay Kuya Daniel Razon, napakagandang ideya po at least nakakalaban po namin lahat ng heroes ng gobyerno,” President Duterte’s special assistant said.
(Thank you and we got lucky in our very first win at the UNTV Cup Executive Face-off. I am happy because there are a lot of UNTV Cup fans who attended, we were pumped up. Also, I would like to congratulate the UNTV Cup management, Kuya Daniel Razon for this [UNTV Cup] is a very good idea, at least we can play with the heroes in the government.)
In the other game, Ombudsman Graft Busters handed the Senate Sentinels its first loss.
Team Ombudsman dominated all the quarters through their tight defense and ending the game with a 15-point gap, 66-51.
Graft Busters Head Coach Ricky Alcantara said, “Ang ginawa lang namin is we adjust doon sa trap nila. Ini-anticipate ko yun eh na gagawin nila yun sa amin. So siguro nakita nila hindi nagwo-work, hinintuan nila kaya kami in return ibinalik lang namin yung ginagawa nila.”
(What we did is to adjust to their trap defense. I already anticipated that they will pull one on us. Maybe they saw that it wasn’t working so they stopped; but in return, we used it against them.)
Senate Head Coach Mike Fermin countered, “We got outrebounded eh… siguro we got outrebounded by 15 plus eh. Yun ang naging difference so offensive rebounds na makuha nila the more chances of scoring, doon kami nagkaroon ng lapses sa rebounding.”
(We got outrebounded… maybe about more than 15 rebounds. That was the difference. They had more offensive rebounds, more chances of scoring. We had lapses in the rebounds.)
Hailed as the Best Players of the Game were Director Nikki Laure with 26 points, 11 rebounds and Atty. Armando Sanchez Jr. with 13 points, 4 rebounds and 4 steals.
And on the PNP-DOJ bout, PNP Responders remained flawless in their record after it defeated the DOJ Justice Boosters, 90-59.
PSupt Joel De Mesa led the policemen with 22 points, 5 rebounds, 1 assist and 1 steal together with PCSupt Philip Philips’ 18 points, 3 rebounds, 1 assist and 1 steal.
