MANILA, Philippines — At the plenary session on Tuesday, Senate Minority Leader Franklin Drilon proudly sponsored a resolution congratulating the Senate Defenders for bringing home the championship title in Monday night’s UNTV Cup Season 6 finals game against Malacañang-PSC Kamao.
“Mr. President, the UNTV Cup was conceptualized by Kuya Daniel Razon in 2012 as a charity basketball league dubbed as “Liga ng Mga Public Servants” to better serve the public thru sponsorship camaraderie and health competition sponsored by the Members of Church of God [International] (MCGI) headed by Bro. Eli Soriano,” said Drilon.
Senators Joel Villanueva and Sonny Angara expressed gratitude to their colleagues and employees of the Senate who supported them during the league.
“That four million cash price that we won last night will go straight to Tahanang Mapagpala, Kyth Foundation. These are cancer survivors and Pangarap Foundation,” said Villanueva.
“The fact that we defeated Malacañang Kamao shows that the principle of check and balances is very much alive, Mr. President,” said Angara.
“Lampaso po yung kalaban. This is not the close game,” said Sen. Juan Miguel Zubiri.
The team’s manager, Senator Ralph Recto even joked about Malacañang-PSC Kamao’s key player, Special Assistant to the President Secretary Christopher “Bong” Go by asking Sen. Drilon, “Would the gentleman know the reason why Mr. Bong Go is interested running for the Senate?”
To which Drilon quipped, “So he can join the Senate Defenders basketball team,” sending everyone in the room laughing.
All senators became co-sponsors of the resolution which was eventually approved by the plenary. — Nel Maribojoc | UNTV News & Rescue
