After failing to beat their opponents (Senate and Malacañang-PSC) during the semifinals at the league of public servants, UNTV Cup, the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Cavaliers and the National Housing Authority (NHA) Builders will face off on Sunday, March 4 at the Pasig City Sports Center for a knock out battle for 3rd place.

Winner of the KO battle or the third placer will get to donate P1,000,000 to their chosen charity plus P200,000 for the team for a total of P1,200,000 tax free.

While the fourth placer or 3rd runner up will get to donate P500,000 to their chosen charity plus P100,000 for the team for a total of P600,000 prize money, tax free.

The former two-time champion AFP Cavaliers has again chosen as their beneficiary the AFP Educational Benefit System Office (AFP-EBSO) or the scholarship program for the children of men in uniform.

The NHA Builders on the other hand, nominated as their chosen charity the NHA Provident Fund Association, Inc. which aids the dependents of the bureau’s deceased employees.

Though they gave their all with their respective opponents during the semis, coaches Sonny Manucat and Benneth Palad admits clear loss.

“Tingin ko breaks of the game. Nandoon naman, bandang huli bumigay… breaks of the game,” AFP Cavaliers’ Head Coach Sonny Manucat said.

(I think it’s really the breaks of the game. We were there [winning the game] but unfortunately, we fell short in the end… breaks of the game.)

NHA Builders Head Coach Silverio “Bennet” Palad III disclosed, “Actually, kulang kami sa player. Wala si [Marvin] Ladia. Injury si Alvin Vitug. Ang Chris Santos ko hindi pwede maglaro. Nasira ang momentum namin.”

(Actually, we’re shorthanded on players. Marvin Ladia can’t play, Alvin Vitug is injured. Chris Santos can’t play too. We just lost our momentum.)

Along with the deciding game on the UNTV Cup Sunday games is the start of the best of three finals series between the Senate Defenders and Malacañang-PSC Kamao.

A classic series is expected for this season’s championship saga as both of the UNTV Cup veteran teams are equally hungry for the title and also both being defense-oriented.

The champion gets P4,000,000 for its chosen charity and P500,000 for their team, totaling P4.5 million tax free.

While the 2nd best gets P2,000,000 for its beneficiary and P300,000 for the team, totaling P2.3 million tax free.

All in all, the play for charity league of public servants, conceptualized by public service advocate, Dr. Daniel Razon, and supported by Bro. Eli Soriano of MCGI will roll out P9.6 million tax free prices while the 10 non-winners team will also receive P100,000 each for donation to their beneficiaries. — UNTV New Media
