Senator Joel Villanueva was on fire on Sunday as he bucketed five shots from the three-point country to lead the Defenders to an impressive win over the DOH Health Achievers, 93-58.
Senator Joel Villanueva said, “We got our rhythm early on. Ang pina-practice namin talagang yun yung nangyayari sa game. We are confident and natutuwa kami dahil lumabas yung game plan namin against DOH.”
(We got our rhythm early on. The plays we practice are those of the actual game. We’re confident and happy that we were able to execute our game plan against the Department of Health.)
Senator Villanueva, with a total of 23 points, and James Ryan Mangaran, who made 20 points, with 4 rebounds and 1 assist were hailed as the best players of the game.
With this victory, the Senate Defenders is catapulted to the top spot of group A with four games won and one game lost, while the DOH stays at the bottom with a 5-1 win-loss standing.
In the Malacañang-PSC-Ombudsman faceoff, Kamao maintains its lead in group B after toppling the Graft Busters, 128-79, last Sunday at the Pasig City Sports Center.
Although it had been tough for the Graft Busters, they did not give up until the last second of the game.
Atty. Laure Quijano of the Team Ombudsman said, “Nandito na kami, sayang yung opportunity na makapaglaro. So ibuhos mo na, nandito ka na eh. Hindi naman lahat ng government agencies nabibigyan ng opportunities like this. So might as well play with all your heart, play with passion kahit na alam mo dehado yung team mo.”
(We’re already here, it’s a rare opportunity to be able to participate in UNTV Cup. So we must play all out. Not all government agencies are given this kind of opportunity. So, might as well play with all your heart, play with passion even if you know your team is at a disadvantage.)
And in the Magis-Food Masters hardcourt battle, the two-time champion Judiciary Magis gains a 4-1 win-loss standing after defeating the Department of Agriculture Food Masters, 112-103.
Meanwhile, the Food Masters now has two games won and three games lost, and needs to win its remaining game against the NHA Builders on Thursday to continue to the second round elimination of the season. — Bernard Dadis | UNTV Cup
