MANILA, Philippines — The NHA Builders have recovered from a loss against the Malacañang-PSC as the team beat the PDEA Drug Busters in its second game this season, 111-88.
The trio of Alvin Vitug, Antonio Lustestica and Waldemar Tibay combined for a total of 72 points to cripple the Drug Busters.
While PDEA was led by Robert Sanz with 24 pts; Marlon Basco with 20 points and Julius Perante with 17 points.
In the other game, the defending champion PNP Responders clinched its second consecutive win against the DOH Health Achievers with 98-91.
The consistent contributors of PNP basketball team Anton Tolentino (21 pts), Olan Omiping (19 pts) and Alejandro Yanquiling (15 pts) delivered as expected to beat the gritty UNTV Cup newcomer, DOH led Leonardo Nidoy (28 pts).
Meanwhile, alongside the 120th founding anniversary celebration of the Department of Justice, the DOJ Justice Boosters celebrated a win over the Department of Agriculture Food Masters, 86-82.
The Justice Boosters was led by Eric Mabazza who made 27 points, while Paul Gerard Reguera and Justine Arvie Lopez both bucketed 11 points.
DOJ Head Coach John Agbayani Jr said, “Sobrang lakas ng mga teams ngayon sa Season 6, so pinanuod lang namin ang first game nila, then ini-adjust lang namin ang defense especially kay Jimwell Torion… then ang offense, sumunod na lang.”
(The UNTV Season 6 teams are too strong. We watched DA’s first game. We adjusted on defense especially for Jimwell Torion then the offense just followed.)
On the other hand, the Food Masters vows to bounce back in their next game.
“Kasi noong na-check nila si Jimwell, nakatayo ang ibang mga kasamahan namin. Siguro more practice pa. May mga plano pa kami sa team… gagawin namin sa practice,” DA Coach Zaldy Realubit said.
(When they were able to check Jimwell Torion, the other players became helpless. Maybe we need more practice. We still have plans for the team and we will do it at practice.)
In addition, Coach John Agbayani expressed gratitude for the support the team has been receiving.
“Unang una, happy anniversary sa amin sa DOJ (Department of Justice). Then, syempre nagpapasalamat kami sa suportang ibinibigay ng DOJ sa DOJ basketball team. Syempre sa UNTV. Nagpapasalamat din kami kay Kuya Daniel (Razon) na nagbibigay ng opportunity for us to play and to coach.”
(Firstly, I would like to greet a happy anniversary to the Department of Justice. Then, of course, I am thankful for the support given by the DOJ to its basketball team. Of course, to UNTV. We are also thankful to Kuya Daniel Razon for giving us opportunity to play and to coach.) — Bernard Dadis | UNTV News & Rescue
