Typhoon Ambo adds 3 meters to Angat Dam’s reserve

MANILA, Philippines – The water level in Angat Dam has improved in the aftermath of Typhoon Ambo in Luzon.

According to the latest reading by the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), the weather system has added 3.09 meters of water to Angat Dam’s reserve from 187.53 meters on May 15 to 190.62 meters on 6:00 am, Sunday (May 17).

Angat’s water level is now 10 meters over its normal operating level of 180 meters.

Last week, the National Water Resources Board (NWRB) has increased domestic allocation to Metro Manila from Angat Dam to 48 cubic meters per second from 46 cubic meters per second to maintain enough supply on the duration of the government-imposed community quarantine in view of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) crisis. –MNP (with reports from Rey Pelayo)

PAGASA lifts tropical cyclone wind signal as ‘Auring’ weakens into LPA

MANILA, Philippines – State weather agency PAGASA has downgraded the weather system formerly known as Tropical Depression ‘Auring’ into a low pressure area (LPA) after it weakened at 11:00 AM Monday (February 22) prior to crossing the Rapu-Rapu Islands, Albay.

The weather bureau forecast the LPA to move northwestward to westward and may traverse Bicol Region, southern Quezon, Marinduque, and northern Mindoro in the next 24 hours. 

There is an increasing likelihood of the disturbance dissipating while traversing Southern Luzon.

Still, moderate to heavy with at times intense rains prevail over Bicol Region, Quezon, Marinduque, and Romblon throughout the day.

Meanwhile, light to moderate with at times heavy rains is still being experienced over Aurora, Rizal, Laguna, Northern Samar, and the rest of MIMAROPA.

Though Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal #1 is now lifted, the northeast monsoon will continue to bring strong breeze conditions over Batanes, Babuyan Islands, Aurora, and Quezon.

As of 3:00 PM today, the LPA (formerly Tropical Depression “Auring”) was estimated West Southwest of Legazpi City, Albay. northeast monsoon affecting Northern Luzon.

With this development and unless re-intensification occurs, PAGASA said this will be the final weather bulletin for this weather disturbance. 

TD Auring made landfall over Batag Island, now aims for Albay-Sorsogon area

MANILA, Philippines — The center of Tropical Depression ‘Auring’ made landfall over Batag Island, Laoang, Northern Samar at 9:00 AM Monday (February 22).

The weather disturbance is now headed towards the Albay-Sorsogon area, according to the latest forecast from the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).

Still, moderate to heavy rains prevail over Northern Samar, Bicol Region, Marinduque, Romblon, and Quezon while light to moderate with at times heavy rains is beijing experienced in areas in Western Visayas, Aurora, Rizal, Samar, northern portion of Eastern Samar and the rest of MIMAROPA.

In the next 24 hours, the combined effects of the Northeast Monsoon and TD Auring will bring strong breeze conditions with occasionally higher gusts over the areas where Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal (TCWS) #1 is in effect:

Luzon

  • Sorsogon, Masbate including Ticao and Burias Islands, Albay, Catanduanes, and the eastern portion of Camarines Sur (Caramoan, Presentacion, Sagnay, Buhi, Iriga City, Nabua, Bato, Balatan)

Visayas

  • Northern Samar, Eastern Samar, Samar, and Biliran

Similar weather condition will continue in areas of Batanes, Babuyan Islands, Aurora, Quezon, Marinduque, Romblon, Oriental Mindoro, Cuyo Islands, Cagayancillo Islands, Western Visayas, and the rest of Eastern Visayas and Bicol Region.

Tropical Depression Auring is seen to continue moving generally northwestward throughout the forecast period and may weaken considerably due to significant terrain interaction leading to deterioration into a remnant low within 24 hours or possibly sooner.

TD Auring shifts turn, now heads to Eastern Samar

MANILA, Philippines – State weather agency PAGASA said tropical depression Auring continues to weaken and may initially make landfall over Eastern Samar in the next 6 to 12 hours as a tropical depression or a remnant low pressure area (LPA).

On Monday (February 22), moderate to heavy rains over Bicol Region, Northern Samar, Samar, Eastern Samar, Biliran, Leyte, Marinduque, Romblon, and Quezon. 

Light to moderate with at times heavy rains over Aurora and the rest of Visayas, MIMAROPA, and CALABARZON.

In the next 24 hours, the combined effects of the Northeast Monsoon and TD Auring will bring strong breeze conditions with occasionally higher gusts over the areas where Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal (TCWS) #1 is in effect.

Similar weather conditions will prevail over Aurora, Quezon, Marinduque, Romblon, Oriental Mindoro, Batanes, Babuyan Islands, the northern portions of Ilocos Norte and mainland Cagayan, Cuyo Islands, Cagayancillo Islands, and the rest of Visayas and Bicol Region.

Mariners of small seacrafts are advised to take precautionary measures when venturing out to sea. Inexperienced mariners should avoid navigating in these conditions.
