The Philippine National Police-Integrity Monitoring and Enforcement Group (PNP-IMEG) on Monday (July 6) arrested two policemen for extorting money from tricycle drivers in Bulacan.

PNP-IMEG Spokesperson PCapt. Mae Ann Cunanan said the agency has been receiving numerous reports since 2019 against two policemen and two civilians extorting from motorists.

Based on reports, the cops would demand payment from motorists in exchange for redeeming their licenses instead of only issuing a citation ticket.

“Kapag hinuhuli nila iyong mga traffic violators, mga tricycle drivers ay hindi nila ini-issue ang ticket. Instead, kinukuha nila iyong pera kapalit nito iyong pagtanggal na sa kanilang violation, (When they apprehend traffic violators and tricycle drivers, they will not issue a ticket. They would take money instead in exchange for removing the violation),” she said.

Cunanan identified the two policemen as PSMgt. Vic Godwin and Pat. Jay Mark Tuazon who are assigned in Malolos City Police Community Precinct 5. The two civilians who served as their middlemen were identified as Wendell Mendoza and Kenneth Villena.

The suspects will be charged with robbery extortion while the two policemen will have additional administrative cases and grave misconduct. AAC (with reports from Lea Ylagan)

PNP to SONA protesters: Just do it online

Aileen Cerrudo   •   July 21, 2020

The Philippine National Police (PNP) is urging protesters planning to hold rallies on the day of President Rodrigo Duterte’s 5th State of the Nation Address (SONA) to just stage their protests online.

PNP Chief PGen. Archie Gamboa said the PNP is always at maximum tolerance and reiterated that everyone is entitled to freedom of expression.

However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, mass gatherings are discouraged to prevent the further spread of the virus.

Nakikiusap lang kami na kung pwede (We are only asking if it would be possible to) just do it online because these are not ordinary times,” he said.

Gamboa also said they are coordinating with militant leaders to urge them not to hold street protests. He also assured that the PNP has prepared the security for the 5th SONA of the president.

So ngayon ang mga traffic at security plan within and outside of the Batasang Pambansa ay firmed up na po at itong Wednesday magkakaroon kami ng final conference regarding po dito sa security preparations, (For now the traffic and security plans within and outside of the Batasang Pambansa has been firmed up. PNP to probe NCRPO officials over alleged harassment of family in Taguig

Several members and officials of the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) will face investigation over the alleged harassment of a family in Taguig, according to the Philippine National Police (PNP).

PNP Chief PGen. Archie Gamboa confirmed that he directed NCRPO Director PMGen. Debold Sinas to look for properties under the PNP that can be used as quarantine facilities.

However, Gamboa said they will investigate how Sinas and several NCRPO members carried out the said order.

“The video would speak a thousand words that’s why we will investigate what happened during that confrontation,” he said.

A video that recently went viral on Facebook showed policemen dismantling barbed wires and tires from the front gate of a house. Arles delos Santos, who posted the video, is among the residents of said house. He is the son of Arnel delos Santos, a former Police Executive Master Sergeant.

According to Delos Santos, they showed the copy of the title, certificate of occupancy and Special Power of Attorney (SPA) from the owner. However, the police allegedly continued carrying out the eviction order against the family.

Gamboa explained that retired PNP members who are occupying PNP quarters will be given a month after their retirement to find another place to live in. This is to turn over the quarters to other active policemen.

“Officers and non-officers are provided housing and quartering facilities when they are in the service,” he said.

“But of course the agreement here, when you get a quarters here in Crame, the first requisite is, you have to be assigned here in Camp Crame. So if you are assigned outside of Camp Crame then you have to vacate immediately, but of course you have grace period of one month. Ganoon din ginagawa namin sa mga retired officers,” Gamboa added.

Meanwhile, Sinas said they had to remove the barbed wires and old tires since it was blocking the parking area and motorpool of the Southern Police District. AAC (with reports from Lea Ylagan)
