TD ‘Chedeng’ enters PAR; storm signal no. 1 raised in 6 areas

MANILA, Philippines – Tropical depression ‘Chedeng’ has slightly slowed down while maintaining its strength after it entered the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) on Sunday (March 17) afternoon.

As of 4:00 a.m., the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said the center of “Chedeng” was estimated at 650 km East of Davao City packed with maximum sustained winds of up to 45 km/h near the center and gustiness of up to 60 km/h.

It moves towards the west direction at at 15 km/h.

The state weather bureau said tropical cyclone warning signal (TCWS) number 1 is raised over Davao Oriental, Compostela Valley, Davao del Sur, Davao City, Davao Occidental, Southern part of Davao del Norte including Samal Island, Eastern part of North Cotabato and Eastern part of Sarangani.

Residents in these areas are expected to experience winds of 30 to 60kph in the 36 hours.

Meanwhile, widespread moderate to heavy rains will prevail over the areas of Surigao del Sur, Agusan del Sur, Davao Oriental, Compostela Valley, and Davao del Norte today (March 18) and in most parts of Mindanao tomorrow (March 19).

Residents of these areas, especially those living in flood and landslide-prone areas are advised to undertake necessary preparations and continue monitoring for updates.

Those with small seacrafts are advised not to venture out over the eastern seaboards of Visayas and Mindanao, as well as the seaboards of areas under tropical cyclone warning signal. Typhoon Ambo adds 3 meters to Angat Dam’s reserve

MANILA, Philippines – The water level in Angat Dam has improved in the aftermath of Typhoon Ambo in Luzon.

According to the latest reading by the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), the weather system has added 3.09 meters of water to Angat Dam’s reserve from 187.53 meters on May 15 to 190.62 meters on 6:00 am, Sunday (May 17).

Angat’s water level is now 10 meters over its normal operating level of 180 meters.

Last week, the National Water Resources Board (NWRB) has increased domestic allocation to Metro Manila from Angat Dam to 48 cubic meters per second from 46 cubic meters per second to maintain enough supply on the duration of the government-imposed community quarantine in view of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) crisis. –MNP (with reports from Rey Pelayo)

Bagyong Ambo inaasahang lalabas ng PAR sa Lunes

MANILA,Philippines — Napanatili ng bagyong Ambo ang lakas nito habang papatawid sa karagatan ng Santa Cruz, Ilocos Sur. 

Batay sa weather bulletin ng Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) ngayong ika-7:00 ng umaga, Sabado (May 16) ang mata ng bagyong Ambo ay natukoy sa karagatan ng Santa Cruz, Ilocos Sur, taglay ang lakas ng hangin na aabot sa 75 km/h at pagbugso na aabot naman sa 125 km/h. 

Kumikilos ito patungong Hilaga at hilagang-kanluran sa bilis na 20 km//h.

Ayon sa PAGASA, posibleng lumabas ang bagyong Ambo sa Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) sa Lunes (May 18) ng umaga o kaya ay hapon.

Dahil dito, patuloy na mararanasan ang katamtaman hanggang malakas na pagulan sa Ilocos Region, Cordillera Administrative Region, Cagayan Valley at sa Hilagang bahagi ng Aurora at Zambales.

Samantala, inalis na ng PAGASA ang tropical cyclone wind signal (TCWS) #3 sa alinmang bahagi ng bansa.

Gayunman, nananatiling nakataas ang TCWS#2 sa mga sumusunod na lugar:

Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, La Union, silangang bahagi ng Pangasinan (Lingayen, San Carlos City, Basista, Malasiqui, Alcala, Sto. Tomas, Rosales, Balungao, Umingan, Binmaley, Calasiao, Sta. Barbara, Urdaneta City, Villasis, Sta. Maria, San Quintin, Dagupan City, Mangaldan, Mapandan, Manaoag, Laoac, Binalonan, Asingan, Tayug, Natividad, San Jacinto, Pozzorubio, San Fabian, Sison, San Manuel, San Nicolas), Apayao, Abra, Kalinga, Mountain Province, Ifugao, Benguet, Babuyan Islands, hilaga-kanlurang bahagi ng mainland Cagayan (Santa Praxedes, Claveria, Sanchez Mira, Pamplona, Abulug), Nueva Vizcaya, hilagang bahagi ng Nueva Ecija (Carranglan, Lupao, San Jose City, Pantabangan).

Nakataas naman ang TCWS #1 sa mga sumusunod na lugar:

Batanes, nalalabing bahagi ng Cagayan, Isabela, Quirino, Aurora, the rest of Nueva Ecija, Tarlac, hilagang bahagi ng  Zambales (Santa Cruz, Candelaria, Masinloc, Palauig, and Iba), at sa nalalabing bahagi ng Pangasinan.

Pinapayuhan ang mga residente sa mga nasabing lugar na maghanda, mag-ingat at makipagugnayan sa lokal na pamahalaan para sa kaukulang aksyon at tulong na kinakailangan. 

Patuloy ring magbantay sa mga paalala ng PAGASA kaugnay ng nararanasang pagulan dulot ng pagkilos ng bagyo.

Bagyong Ambo papalapit na sa hilagang bahagi ng Quezon-Laguna

MANILA, Philippines — Umuusad na ang Bagyong Ambo patungo sa hilagang bahagi ng Quezon at Laguna habang patuloy na nagpapaulan sa hilagang bahagi naman ng Bondoc Peninsula  sa Southern Quezon.

Ayon sa weather bulletin ng PAGASA kaninang ika-11:00 ng umaga, Biernes (May 15), namataan ang mata ng Bagyong Ambo sa lugar ng Catanauan, Quezon, taglay ang lakas ng hangin na aabot sa 125 km/h malapit sa gitna at pagbugso na aabot sa 165 km/h.

Patuloy itong kumikilos patungong hilaga-kanlurang direksyon sa bilis na 20 km/h

Dahil dito, nakararanas ng katamtaman hanggang malakas na pag-ulan sa mga lugar ng Bicol Region, Quezon, Aurora, Marinduque, Laguna, Rizal, maging sa Metro Manila, Bulacan, Nueva Ecija, Nueva Vizcaya, at Quirino.

Pinapayuhan ang mga residente sa mga nasabing lugar na mag-ingat at maghanda, makipagugnayan sa lokal na pamahalaan sa mga kaukulang paalala at patuloy na i-monitor ang pagkilos ng bagyo sa pamamagitan ng mga advisory ng PAGASA.
