Kuya Daniel Razon receives the plaque from Guinness World Record in behalf of the Ang Dating Daan Chorale for the new Largest Gospel Choir record. Guinness is represented by its adjudicator Ms. Fortuna Burke Melhem.
ARANETA COLISEUM, QUEZON CITY – (12 October 2015) A church choir composed of 8,688 gospel singers rendering a total of 18 numbers in at least five languages and joined by others in 1,360 monitoring centers across the globe recently vied for the title, “Largest Gospel choir.”
The choir belonging to the Members Church of God International (MCGI) bagged a Guinness World Record title during the special 35th anniversary presentation of the program, Ang Dating Daan. “The Old Path” in English, the program is the longest running radio-television of its kind that started in 1980.
According to the GuinnessWorldRecords.com website, this category refers to “the largest number of people singing a gospel choir, properly conducted under concert conditions.”
The Ang Dating Daan Chorale opens the revelry with a majestic rendition of “The Lord’s Prayer.”
The culmination of the Ang Dating Daan 35th anniversary is to celebrate through songs not only its broadcast milestones and global reach but more importantly the commitment of the program towards charity causes.
During the celebration, ten charitable institutions which shelter and support the handicapped and differently abled people were the guest of honors in the said event. Each group was gifted with P100k and thirty individuals were given P10K each. All invited physically challenged persons including their aides were given grocery items.
Charity had been at the core of Ang Dating Daan’s social responsibilities ever since its inception, and serenading the handicapped with songs that encourage and strengthen their faith was seen as the most fitting theme to pursue at the program’s 35th year.
Apart from the thousands of Ang Dating Daan Chorale members, persons with disabilities from different institutions also join the ADD in celebrating its 35 fruitful years.
Meanwhile, Guinness World Records Judge Fortuna Burke Melhem confirmed the success of MCGI’s record-breaking attempt the same day, indicating it recorded 8,688 gospel choir members in attendance. The tally of the attendance was validated by the external auditing firm, P&A Grant Thornton.
MCGI’s church choir, that sang at Smart-Araneta on October 12, 2015, rendered a total of 18 numbers, including medleys in different languages such as Tagalog, English, Portuguese, Spanish and Swahili. Swahili is a language widely used as a lingua franca in East Africa.
Joining the chorus at The Big Dome were MCGI choirs in more than 1,360 satellite-monitoring centers across the globe.
“Like what we always say, if we are able to do something, and if there is any glory attained, it is always for God – to God be the glory!” said Bro. Eli Soriano, host of The Old Path and the Overall Servant of MCGI.
The church leadership also expressed their gratitude to the Lord for The Old Path program’s three decades of broadcast, as well as to all those who attended the event.
“Singing for the glory of our Lord is our pride,” Ang Dating Daan host Bro. Eli Soriano shares before the immense Araneta crowd.
