MANILA, Philippines — Senators set to conduct marathon hearings on the 2022 national budget as Senate resumes session Monday, November 8.

Senate President Vicente Sotto III said they are prepared for whole-day interpellations on the budget.

According to schedule, Senate Finance Committee Chairperson Sonny Angara will give his sponsorship speech regarding the national budget on Tuesday, while Wednesday will mark the start of the discussion on the budget allocation of different agencies, starting with the Department of Finance, National Economic and Development Authority, and the Department of Budget and Management.

Angara said they are looking into the inclusion of the special risk allowance (SRA) in next year’s budget to ensure that the country is ready in case of another COVID-19 variant.

“We are working on including the SRA (special risk allowance) and other important health interventions to ensure na handa tayo next year kahit magkaroon tayo ng bagong strain ng virus tulad nung Delta variant o bagong variant nitong COVID,” Angara said.

Under the House version, Php65 billion of the national budget was realigned wherein Php4.5 billion was channeled to the SRA.

Angara said it is up to department heads to decide who to send to the hearing to represent their respective agencies.

Senate President Sotto, meanwhile, several economic bills will be given priority for a plenary hearing, including the Public Services Act and the Foreign Investment Act. —/mbmf (from the report of UNTV Correspondent Harlene Delgado)

“We would want to assure and we assure the public that the budget will be signed.

“If I’m not mistaken, it will be signed tomorrow afternoon,” ani Canda sa isang panayam.

“Pero it’s very few if I’m not mistaken, kasi parang maganda yung mga naipasok ng mga legislators doon sa budget,” ani Canda.
