Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte explained to her supporters her reasons why she agreed to run in tandem with former Senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. in the 2022 national and local elections.

During their unity caravan held in Tagum City, Davao del Norte on Sunday, Duterte said she decided to become Marcos’ running mate because of his long experience as a public official.

Sara Duterte is the vice presidential candidate of Lakas-Christian Muslim Democrats (Lakas-CMD) while Marcos is running for president under the Partido Federal ng Pilipinas.

“Nganong si Bongbong Marcos man akong gipili na kapares? Unang una he’s a fourth term governor, walay makiglalis sa iyahang experience as Governor, murag ako Mayor, local chief executive,” she said.

(Bakit si Bongbong Marcos ang aking pinili kong kapares? Unang-una he’s a fourth term governor, walang makikipagtalo sa experience niya as governor, parang ako mayor, local chief executive)

“Ikaduha, duna siyay experience sa House of Representative ug congressman, ikatulo nahimo syag senador,” she added.

(Pangalawa meron syang experience sa House of Representative at pagiging congressman. Pangatlo naging senador siya)

Marcos previously served as governor, and representative of Ilocos Norte. He later became a senator.

Sara Duterte last week confirmed that she is running in tandem with Marcos in the upcoming elections. (with details from Correspondent Marisol Montaño)

Cusi-led PDP-LABAN wing adopts Sara Duterte as VP bet

Robie de Guzman   •   January 21, 2022

MANILA, Philippines – The PDP-Laban faction led by Energy Secretary Alfonso Cusi on Friday said it has adopted Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio as its vice presidential candidate for the May 2022 national elections.

In a statement, the PDP-Laban wing said it is already finalizing the terms of its alliance agreement with Lakas-CMD party, which is chaired by Mayor Sara.

“The decision to adopt Mayor Sara has been made by the PDP-Laban National Executive Committee based on her credentials, advocacies, and vision for our nation,” the group said.

“Based on these, the PDP-Laban has decided that the quality of her advocacies and vision are strongly aligned with that of the party,” it added.

The group also said that Sara Duterte-Carpio’s leadership and track record “make her most qualified for the position she is now aspiring for and therefore deserves the party’s support.”

It also expressed its belief that Sara’s election to the vice presidency “will help ensure the continuity of the vital programs of the current administration.”

Sara Duterte-Carpio and the Lakas-CMD have yet to issue a statement on the matter.

While it adopted Mayor Sara, the Cusi-led faction left out her running mate, former Senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.

The group said it is still in the process of evaluating who among the presidential candidates would best continue the programs of the Duterte administration.

It will also consider President Rodrigo Duterte’s personal pick for president in deciding who to support for the presidency, it added.
