Wishcovery Season 2 grand champion, Rhea Basco

Three weeks has passed since Rhea Basco became the grand champion of Wishcovery Season 2: The singer and the song, the first and biggest online singing competition in the country.

But until now, the dentistry student from Taguig City still cannot believe the blessings she has been receiving.

“Nandito pa rin po iyong feeling ko na parang regular person pa rin. Mayroong ibang nakakakilala sa akin, or tumitingin so nakakagulat din po, (I still feel like a regular person, but I already get recognized by other people, it is surprising),” Rhea said.

On Friday, Wish 107.5 and Wishcovery innovator Kuya Daniel Razon gave Rhea the key to her brand new car as part of her grand prize for winning the competition. She has also won a house and lot, P1 million cash and a career in the music industry.

Rhea will also perform as a front act in the concert of KZ Tandingan in Dubai on March 22. She said she is already preparing for her very first performance abroad.

“50 percent (preparation) magpa-practice po ako para hindi naman sila madismaya kapag nag-perform na po ako, gagalingan ko. Excited po ko pero kinakabahan kasi KZ iyon, super galing niya, (50% preparation, I am practicing so that the audience will not be disappointed when I perform. I am excited and nervous because she is KZ, she is an excellent performer),” according to her.

“Super happy din po kasi pinagkatiwalaan ako ng Wish mag-front act sa concert ni KZ sa Dubai and sa Davao, so sobrang happy po, ( I’m super happy because Wish has trusted me to do the front act at KZ’s concert in Dubai and in Davao) she adds.

There is a lot in store for her after she concludes her performance in Dubai.

Kuya Daniel Razon told Wishers to stay tuned for the concert and album launch of Rhea along with her fellow grand finalists in Wishcovery Season 2.

“So ito ang immediate na kasunod nito, ang launch ng kanilang album and we’re looking forward na makapag-collaborate din sila sa kanilang mga mentors, ang kanilang mga composers, isang performance that they will be doing sa malaking venue, (The launch of their album will follow. We’re also looking forward to their collaboration with their mentors and composers, in a performance that they will be doing in a bigger venue],” he said.

Meanwhile, singing hopefuls should prepare for the upcoming Wishcovery Season 3.

“We will be announcing soon the mechanics for the season 3 ng Wishcovery, so abangan na lang po nila and hopefully makapag-bigay ng panibagong chance doon sa mga ibig na pumasok sa larangan ng musika. (We will be announcing soon the mechanics for the Wishcovery season 3, so watch out for that and hopefully it can provide another chance for those who want to be in the music industry). Watch out for the opening and we will be announcing the mechanics soon,” Daniel Razon added.

So Wishers, keep on wishing and you might be the next Wishcovery grand champion—Aileen Cerrudo (with reports from Mirasol Abogadil)

Dubai authorities to send ‘high water usage alert’ to slow down consumption

by UNTV News and Rescue   |   Posted on Thursday, 25 October 2018 11:27 AM

Dubai cityscape

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates – Households in Dubai will be receiving alert messages once their water consumption gets higher than prescribed.

The Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) said the measure aims to address the concerns of residents about skyrocketing water rates that recently flooded the social media.

Every 15th day of the month for the period of three months, DEWA will send “high water usage alert” to every household to remind them of their water consumption.

After the three-month period, each household must confirm if the water reading was reasonable or if they recorded unusual increase. If DEWA receives no confirmation from a household, that means the reading is accurate and it will be the basis for that household’s average consumption.

The DEWA argued they constantly remind households to check their respective water facility from time to time to address possible leakage.

According to DEWA estimate, a leakage from a single household can cause 200 gallons of lost water every day.

Residents, meanwhile, acknowledged the measure saying it will spare them from paying unconsumed charges.

“A few months back we had a drastic evident increase on our DEWA bill. It’s a bit complex because you have to inform the DEWA authority. They’ll have to wait for or have to get approval prior to sending somebody over to fix the issue and it takes a couple days for everything to be resolved. It’s a good step for the UAE authority (and) DEWA to imposed such system of sending a message to a residence,” said Julian Say, an OFW in Dubai.

“I would like to thank DEWA for creating this idea because it will help the owner. If there was a leaking in the house they give alarm and to advise that there is an unusual increase for the consumption of water,” said Zayed Ibrahim Alawadi, a UAE national.

Residents are advised to provide accurate personal information as they register to DEWA to be able to receive the alert message. – Marje Pelayo (with reports from Bong Cabuhat)
