MANILA, Philippines – Kasangbahays has again something to watch out for on UNTV as the documentary program “Spotlight” has been relaunched.
Its returning host, multi-awarded broadcast journalist and TV personality William Thio, said the program will introduce iconic figures in the country in a way the public has never seen before.
“Maraming mga tao na para bang kilala natin but we want to bring to the viewers what people don’t know which is more of the personal life. If they’re successful, kung ano ‘yung mga challenges na naranasan nila na para bang did they want to give up,” Thio said.
(There are many people we think we know but we want to bring to the viewers what people don’t know which is more of the personal life. If they’re successful, what were the challenges they experienced. Did they ever want to give up?)
Apart from featuring the popular personalities’ achievements, the program also gives its viewers an opportunity to learn from the colorful stories of its guests.
That’s why Spotlight is not only informative and entertaining but also inspirational. William adds there are some changes in the program’s concept.
“During that time, Regie was doing the political side, serious political side and I was doing more of the lifestyle and entertainment so yung relaunch ng spotlight ngayon has a slightly different format, more of achievers, more of people who are successful in their given fields,” Thio added.

Meanwhile, William feels honored to be entrusted with the program again. He said he feels happy to do the project being part of the country’s public service channel.
“I’m honored and of course, fortunate to be doing what I wanted to do which is of course the news and public service and with the network that of course ang advocacy ng UNTV is news, rescue, public service and anything to do with for the good of humanity so I think I found my home,” William said.

MANILA, Philippines — Members of the Gawad Amerika Awards gave recognition to Kuya Daniel Razon not just because of his great skills in broadcasting, but also for his contribution to the entire broadcast industry not just in the Philippines but also abroad.
According to Charles Simbulan, the founding president of the prestigious award-giving body, Kuya Daniel’s ability and knowledge as a global newscaster is one of a kind.
“UNTV has the reputation, it is very solid, it is very fair, it is right to be an awardee of this event,” said Simbulan.
“Humble person, nice person, intelligent, he knows what he is doing, and it is right for him to be recognized not only here but globally,” he added.
Gawad Amerika Vice President, Alfredo Yumul, meanwhile, said it’s high time to award Kuya Daniel for his good works.
“When I was still in the Philippines, he was still the newscaster of UNTV. It just happened that I was still in the Philippines that time,” said the vice president.
The Gawad Amerika is a civic organization composed of Filipino Americans.
The award-giving body recognizes the Filipino groups and individuals with a unique contribution to various fields.
It was in 2006 and 2011 when the Gawad Amerika awards declared as the most informative religious program the Ang Dating Daan hosted by Bro. Eli Soriano of the Members Church of God International (MCGI).
In 2015, UNTV was recognized as the best internet and cable channel while Why News anchor William Thio was recognized as the most promising male news personality of the year.

MELBOURNE — Young volunteers from the Members Church of God International (MCGI) in Australia have once again visited the elders at the Bernadette’s Residential Aged Care facility in Melbourne.
The said facility is home to 95 elders, many of them with no relatives to take care of them while some are temporarily staying there as relatives can no longer support them.
The elders were grateful for the volunteers’ visit and after our kasangbahays entertained them.
Joyce Thomas, a resident of the facility, said, “We just had a beautiful choir, their names are MCGI. We are in the community center of St. Bernadettes. We had a glorious time and those singers and dancers were wonderful. I think they should come back and we will enjoy them more.”
The MCGI volunteers, meanwhile, are delighted to have the opportunity to ease the sadness of the elders.
“Para sa akin po nakakagaan ng pakiramdam na kahit papano po nakakapagpasaya po kami ng matatanda na minsan na lang po binibista ng kanilang mga mahal sa buhay kaya ako po masarap po sa pakiramdam (It’s such a nice feeling to make them happy even for a while. They are elders whose loved ones rarely visit them),” Carlo Duran, an MCGI youth member said.
While MCGI member Paul Saba said, “Bilang representative po ng kabataan dito sa Australia, kami po ay full-support sa advocacy ni Kuya Daniel sa pagtulong sa kapuwa lalo na po sa mga matatanda(As representatives of the MCGI here in Australia, we are in full support of the advocacies of Kuya Daniel in helping others especially the elders).”
Daniel Razon, or Kuya Daniel as he is fondly called, is a veteran broadcast journalist and philanthropist known for his pioneering innovations in community service through Philippine media.

The much-awaited movie “Isang Araw Lang: Ikatlong Yugto” is not only studded with stars from the Philippine movie industry but it also features UNTV’s very own news anchors.
Thalia Javier feels very blessed for being a part of Kuya Daniel Razon’s advocacy film.
“Ang daming nagbago sa akin nang nag-start ako sa UNTV,” Javier said.
“Noong pumasok ako, 18 (years old) pa lang ako. Wala pa ako kamuwang-muwang sa mundo. Kaya noong kinuha ako nila Kuya (Daniel), talagang natuwa ako kasi binigyan nila ako ng chance na maging news anchor, na magbalita, maghost at ngayon sa movie,” she added.
For Monica Verallo, this advocacy film is indeed a challenge for her to be physically and emotionally fit.
She observed how Rheena Villamor and Arlene Razon made it seem easy performing well-choreographed fight scenes during rehearsals.
“Sabi ni Kuya, ‘Kaya mo yan. Tutulungan ka naman namin along the way, hindi ka namin isasabak ng walang training.’ Ibibigay ko na lang ‘yung one hundred one percent best ko,” Verallo expressed.
Her role as a police officer also made her realize how risky the job of a real cop is.
“Every time na makakarinig ako na may pinasok na ganitong warehouse, may ginawang operasyon, parang nai-imagine ko ‘yung sarili ko, ‘What if ako ‘yung mismong gumagawa nun?’ Bigla mo ma-appreciate ‘yung ginawa ng mga kasama sa PNP,” she said.
For news anchor William Thio, his transformation for this movie was not only on the outside but a gradual change that started from within through the years.
“Kung tutuusin, matagal na rin akong host sa UNTV, and I always learn a lot from Kuya. In all angles of my life, sa totoo lang, wala akong kapatid na older at wala na akong father,” Thio said.
William is proud of doing this advocacy film, as he firmly believes that this movie will surely make a difference. — Bryan Evangelista | UNTV News & Rescue
