President Rodrigo Duterte on Monday morning led the distribution of compensation to farmers who have been affected by the bird flu outbreak in San Luis Pampanga.

The total compensation package for the affected farmers is around P29-million.

Poultry raisers in Jaen and San Isidro Nueva Ecija were also among those who got compensated following the immediate culling of all chickens, ducks and quails.

The said amount is just an initial payment to poultry raisers.

President Duterte said it is imperative to conduct strict monitoring of poultry and poultry products that are coming in to the country to prevent the avian flu virus outbreak from happening again.

Highlight of the program was a boodle fight wherein the participants enjoyed chicken barbecue and fried ducks.

“So I came here just to eat the chicken and the eggs and the “baluts” to assure the public na hindi po delikado  (it is no longer dangerous),” Duterte added.

The Pampanga Local Government Unit thanked all entities who helped for their immediate recovery from the crisis.

“Una po sa lahat ibinabalita ko po sa inyo na sa pangunguna ni Sec. Piñol ay na contain napo ang bird flu outbreak na idineklara sa dalawang barangay ng bayan ng San Luis noong Aug.11 na kasaluluyang nagdi-disinfect na ngayon mga poultry farms at kabahayan,” Pampanga Gov. Lilia Pineda said. (First of all, I am announcing that the bird flu outbreak declared on two barangays in San Luis on August 11,  has been contained under the leadership of [Agriculture] Secretary Manny Piñol. Disinfection of poultry farms and houses are ongoing.)

Poultry raisers also hope that they can soon start anew with their livelihood. – Rosalie Coz | UNTV News and Rescue

Pampanga to return to ECQ if spike in COVID-19 cases continues, governor warns

Aileen Cerrudo   •   July 8, 2020

Pampanga Governor Dennis Pineda warned of reverting the province to enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) if the number of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases continues to rise.

“Tumaas po ang mga kaso natin. I have no choice kung hindi ibalik sa GCQ ito o ECQ kung aabot tayo sa worst situation (Cases in our province increased. I have no choice but to revert to GCQ or ECQ if the situation worsens),” he said.

After the province was placed under modified general community quarantine (MGCQ) on June 15, new COVID-19 cases went up by 25. As of July 7, according to the Provincial Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit, there are 166 confirmed COVID-19 cases in the Pampanga, with 100 recoveries and 16 deaths.

Only Arayat and Masantol, Pampanga remain COVID-19-free, the Pampanga governor said. He reminds residents to only leave the house if necessary.

“Hindi po sinasabi ng MGCQ na libre kayo na makipagkwentuhan sa ibang lugar (Just because it’s MGCQ, it doesn’t mean you are free to meet up in other places),” he said.

Barangay Capalangan and Sulipan in Apalit are currently under hard lockdown until July 16 due to the surge of COVID-19 cases in the area. AAC (with reports from Leslie Huidem)

Public need not worry about Duterte’s ‘shoot them dead’ warning vs quarantine violators — IATF

Aileen Cerrudo   •   April 2, 2020

There is no need to worry about President Rodrigo Duterte’s ‘shoot them dead’ order against those who would disrupt the enhanced community quarantine, according to Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-EID) Spokesperson Cabinet Secretary Karlo Nograles.

In a digital press conference on Thursday (April 2), Nograles said the public should remember that the country is facing a public health issue and not a peace and order issue.

“This is a public health concern. Let’s not complicate things by making it a peace and order problem. It’s already hard and difficult as it is. Let’s focus on one enemy, which is COVID-19,” he said.

The IATF Spokesperson said that despite the ceasefire with the rebel groups. the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) and the Philippine National Police (PNP) are prepared to take action if there is disorder.

“Hindi po papayag ang gobyerno na may manggugulo at may magti-take advantage sa situation na to (The government will not allow anyone who will cause chaos or take advantage of this situation),” Nograles said.

“Alam naman ng mga policemen natin, our AFP kung ano ang protocols pagdating sa peacekeeping and law enforcement (Our policemen, the AFP know the protocols when it comes to peacekeeping and law enforcement),” he added.

On Wednesday (April 1), Duterte warned that he will order the police and the AFP to shoot anyone who creates trouble. AAC (with reports from Dante Amento)
