The Commission on Elections (Comelec) gun ban will come to a close as the election period ends tomorrow, (June 12).
This gives way for gun owners to carry firearms outside of their homes as long as they have the permit to do so.
The Philippine National Police (PNP) has recorded more than six thousand violators of the gun ban since it was launched on January 13.
More than five thousand guns and close to fifty thousand deadly weapons were confiscated by the authorities.
The police officers who violated (the gun ban), are now facing administrative cases for violating our rules and regulations].” (with details from Lea Ylagan) /mbmf
MANILA, Philippines – The Philippine National Police (PNP) has taken full supervision of the National Police Training Institute (NPTI) and the Philippine National Police Academy (PNPA) in a formal turn over on Monday (October 7) at Camp Vicente Lim in Calamba, Laguna.
The transfer of supervision was in accordance with Republic Act 11279 which was signed by President Rodrigo Duterte in May this year.
“The Philippine National Police shall have administrative and operational supervision and control over the Philippine National Police Academy. and the National Police Training Institute,”
RA 11279 states that the transfer of administration is “to better achieve the goals of a highly efficient and competent police force.”
It is also in line with the PNP’s program of internal cleansing among its rank of ‘sloppy’ and ‘scalawag’ policemen.
PNP Chief Director General Oscar Albayalde is confident that by directly managing the police training institutions, the PNP will be able to achieve its targets of 10,000 police recruits who will be honed in lieu of the retiring police officers.
“The PNP is now solely responsible for the making of a complete police officer, from recruitment to retirement,” Albayalde said.
“Thus, we only have ourselves to blame if any PNP member will go astray because of poor training and orientation,” he concluded. MNP (with reports from April Cenedoza)
Senator Ronald dela Rosa has issued a public apology for his “shit happens” remark last week.
The senator’s statement stemmed from the death of a three-year-old girl during an anti-illegal drugs operation of the Philippine National Police (PNP) in Rodriguez, Rizal last June 29.
Dela Rosa admitted using wrong choice of words in detailing the said incident.
“Klaruhin ko na lang, hindi maganda ang dating doon sa parents ng bata na namatay. I would like to apologize to the family yung aking wrong use of term. Dapat ang sinabi ko doon instead na ‘shit happens’, dapat unfortunate [I would like to clear, it didn’t sit well with the parents of the dead child. I would like to apologize to the family for my wrong use of term. I shouldn’t have said “shit happens” but, rather, unfortunate],” Dela Rosa said.
The newbie senator promised to be very careful with his choice of words now that he is already a lawmaker. (with details from Nel Maribojoc) /mbmf
