MANILA, Philippines — Pinawi ng Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) ang pangamba ng publiko hinggil sa mga balitang may malakas pang lindol na mangyayari sa Bohol.

Ayon kay PHIVOLCS Director Renato Solidum, imposible na itong mangyari dahil nakapaglabas na ng enerhiya ang fault na gumalaw noong Oktubre 15.

“Yung fault na gumalaw ay nag-release na ng enerhiya na napakalakas 7.2. Pambihira po na ganon kalakas at di ganong kahabaan ay mag-gegenerate pa ng magnitude 8. Hindi tayo umaasa na magnitude 8 sa lugar na yan, imposible.”

Pinabulaanan rin nito na may namumuong buklan sa lalawigan tulad ng ikinatatakot ng marami dahil sa paglabas ng tubig na amoy asupre.

Maliban sa East Bohol fault, marami pang mga local fault sa lalawigan na nagiging dahilan ng mga paglindol ngunit hanggang sa ngayon ay walang pang bulkan na natatagpuan sa Bohol.

“Sa pagitan ng sand grain ay lumalabas yan kaya magkakaroon ka ng fountain of water and even mud at may kasamang gas, hindi po yun bulkan, normal po yun sa lindol, liquefaction po ang tawag at sanhi ng bitak,” pahayag pa ni Solidum.

Idinagdag pa ng opisyal na mababawasan na rin ang mga aftershock kumpara noong nakaraang linggo.

Samantala, pinag-iingat ni Solidum ang mga residente sa pagpasok sa mga delikadong lugar tulad ng mga building na may crack at maging sa mga matataas na lugar. (Lea Ylagan / Ruth Navales, UNTV News)

Pangambang sumabog ang Mt. Taal matapos ang malakas na lindol sa Batangas, pinawi ng Phivolcs

MANILA, Philippines – Pinawi ng Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) ang pangamba hinggil sa muling pagsabog ng bulkang Taal kasunod ng magnitude 6.3 na lindol na yumanig sa Calatagan, Batangas pasado alas-7 Biyernes ng umaga.

Ayon kay PHIVOLCS director, Undersecretary Renato Solidum, maliit ang posibilidad na magkaroon ng epekto sa bulkan ang malakas na lindol bagaman patuloy pa nila itong inoobserbahan.

Binigyang-diin rin ni Solidum na sumabog na ang bulkan ngayong taon at malalim ang naramdamang lindol kaninang umaga.

Siguro pagdating doon sa fault baka wala, kasi hindi naman ito ganoon kalaki at malalim siya masyado. Pero pagdating sa Taal Volcano, kasi katatapos lang ng kanyang eruption, oobserbahan natin kung may epekto talaga ito,” ang pahayag ni Solidum.

“Titingnan natin kung magre-react ang Taal Volcano, pero dapat nating maaalala, matandaan, na nasa alert level 1 pa lang naman siya,” dagdag pa niya.

Magugunitang noong buwan ng Enero 2020 ay itinaas sa alert level 4 ang Taal matapos itong magbuga ng abo.

Sa ngayon ay nasa alert level 1 ang bulkan na ang ibig sabihin ay bahagyang pagtaas ng volcanic activity gaya ng gas o steam emission at mga pagyanig. Ipinagbabawal din ang pagpasok sa permanent danger zone ng bulkan.

Paliwanag ng ahensiya, gumalaw ang Manila trench kaya’t naramdaman ang pagyanig sa Metro Manila.

Tiniyak din ng PHIVOLCS na walang direktang epekto ang lindol sa Batangas sa West Valley Fault.

Bukod sa Metro Manila, Batangas at Laguna, naramdaman rin ang lindol sa ilang bahagi ng Rizal at Northern Luzon.

Magnitude 5.2 quake rattles parts of Davao Occidental

MANILA, Philippines – A magnitude 5.2 earthquake rocked Davao Occidental on Friday, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) reported.

In its bulletin, PHIVOLCS said the temblor occurred at 10 a.m., 89 kilometers southeast of Sarangani town in Davao Occidental.

It was tectonic in origin and had a depth of 65 kilometers.

Instrumental Intensity II was felt at Alabel, Sarangani and Instrumental Intensity I was felt at Kiamba, Sarangani; Koronadal City; General Santos City.

PHIVOLCS said it is not expecting damage nor aftershocks due to the quake.

The state seismologists earlier reported a magnitude 6.3 quake that struck off Calatagan, Batangas at 7:43 a.m. Friday.

MRT-3, LRT-2 resume ops after Batangas quake

MANILA, Philippines – The operations of the Metro Rail Transit line 3 (MRT-3) has resumed after it was momentarily halted due to the magnitude 6.3-earthquake that struck off Calatagan, Batangas at around 7:34 a.m. Friday and felt in Metro Manila.

In an advisory, the MRT-3 management said the railway operations resumed at 8:32 a.m. but at a slower speed of 50 kilometers per hour (kph) from 60kph at the mainline after checking of tracks.

“Checking of buildings and facilities is ongoing,” the MRT-3 said.

The railway management was forced to suspend train operations for minutes earlier and advised train drivers to stop at the nearest station for precautionary measures.  

Meanwhile, the management of the Light Rail Transit line 2 (LRT-2) said operations resumed around 11 a.m. after it was temporarily suspended due to the quake.

The temblor was also felt in nearby provinces, including Bulacan, Bataan, and Laguna.

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) said the quake was tectonic in origin and had a depth of focus of 109 kilometers.

  • Intensity IV – Lemery, and Malvar, Batangas; San Pedro, Laguna; City of Manila; Marikina City; Quezon City; Cainta and Antipolo City, Rizal; Pasig City
  • Intensity III – Caloocan City; Tanay, Rizal; San Jose Del Monte City, and Plaridel, Bulacan; Gapan City, Nueva Ecija; Cabangan and Iba, Zambales; Samal,
  • Bataan; Valenzuela City; Malabon City
  • Intensity II – San Isidro, Nueva Ecija; Alaminos City, Pangasinan
  • Instrumental Intensities were also recorded:
  • Intensity IV – Bacoor City; Tagaytay City; Carmona, Cavite; Plaridel, Calumpit, San Ildefonso, San Rafael, and Malolos, Bulacan; Guagua, Pampanga; Puerto Galera, Oriental Mindoro; Las Pinas City
  • Intensity III – Talisay, Batangas; San Jose, Occidental Mindoro; Dagupan City; Quezon City; Pasig City; Muntinlupa City; Marikina City; Cabanatuan City
  • Intensity II – Roxas, Oriental Mindoro; Lucban, Quezon; Baler, Aurora; Palayan City
  • Intensity I – San Jose, Nueva Ecija; Gumaca, Lopez and Lucena City, Quezon

Phivolcs said there is no reported significant damage from the quake but it is expecting aftershocks.
