Philippine National Robotics teams secure global recognition at the World Robot Olympiad

MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine National Robotics teams have secured global recognition at the World Robot Olympiad (WRO) Canada 2020X held online last November 12-15.
Two teams clinched the 2nd and 3rd places in the Open Category-Junior High, while one team bagged 1st place in the Open Category-Senior High.
Naiah Nicole Mendoza, Denise Carpio, and Abigail Silva of Dr. Yanga Colleges, Inc. took home the gold medal through the “Project Feet” which is a three-way innovation that includes Plastic Recycling, Power Generation, and Provision of Footwear. It can also manufacture footwear from plastic trash.
Annette Nicole Ambi, Aaron James Amar, and Daniella Angela de Guzman from the same school crafted the “Project Cycle” which bagged the silver medal. The project uses bicycles to convert trash paper mixed with water lilies to make recycled paper. It can also generate power for mobile phones and other gadgets.
Meanwhile, DepEd – Division of Bohol pride Mary Haidee Makinano, Trisha Belle Olaivar, and Juno Ceasar Escatron from Candijay Municipality High School won the bronze medal for their Bohol Action to Solidify Agrikultura (BASAK) project that composes of wind turbines, water pumps, and biomass generators for the agriculture industry in their province.
The Department of Education (DepEd) lauded the achievements of the students even amid the challenges they face this COVID-19 pandemic.
“I am aware that we have been facing adversities and challenges recently but seeing these learners triumph in the international stage motivates us to prepare and enhance basic education more for their future,” DepEd Secretary Leonor Briones said. AAC
