The Parents Teachers Alliance (PTA) is appealing to the government to postpone the resumption of classes, citing the alleged lack of preparedness of the Department of Education (DepEd).

PTA Chairman Emilio ‘Jun’ Abelita claims that DepEd has yet to complete the printing of modules two weeks before the reopening of classes.

“I challenge them [DepEd]. Sabihin lang ng DepEd na tapos na ang lahat ng modules ngayon na ginawa in all divisions all over the country, [then] I’ll stop talking, (I challenge DepEd to say that it has completed the printing of all the modules made for all divisions all over the country, then I’ll stop talking),” he said.

The PTA is also calling on President Rodrigo Duterte to postpone the resumption of classes by two to three months to give DepEd enough time to prepare. They are also asking for the removal of online modality due to lack of proper gadgets and poor internet connection.

May problema pa tayo sa gadgets sa mga bata (We’re still struggling to provide gadgets to students). Ang sinasabi ko nga sa DepEd kalimutan na natin iyang online na iyan (I’ve been telling DepEd to forget online [modality]). Even professionals are having a hard time connecting to each other,” Abelita added.

DepEd meanwhile, reiterated that they will push through with the reopening of classes. DepEd Usec. Nepomuceno Malaluan said there has been good progress in the department’s preparation for Basic Education-Learning Continuity Program (BE-LCP).

Mayroon tayong reports sa mga division natin mayroong 80 percent to 100 percent stage ang BE-LCP printing for the first quarter, (We have reports in our division where the BE-LCP printing for the first quarter is at 80-100%),” he said. AAC (with reports from Dante Amento)
