“For Bicol, its under study. We are meeting with DOH this afternoon to hear their recommendations,” ani Malaya.

Autopsy report shows athlete Keith Absalon, cousin sustained gunshot wounds

Marje Pelayo   •   June 10, 2021

MANILA, Philippines — The City Health Office in Masbate City has released the result of its necropsy report on the bodies of Far Eastern University football player Keith Absalon and his cousin Nolven Absalon.

The two died from a landmine explosion on June 6 while biking in their hometown in Purok 4, Barangay Anas, Masbate City.

However, based on the report, Keith also sustained a gunshot wound on the right eye while Nolven sustained a gunshot wound on the right shoulder blade and on the left lateral distal thigh.

The report further confirmed that Keith died of hemorrhagic shock secondary to gunshot wound and blast injuries while Nolven’s death was caused mainly by hemorrhagic shock from the gunshot wound he sustained.

The Communist Party of the Philippines – New People’s Army (CPP-NPA) has taken full responsibility for the deaths of the two men.

“The entire CPP and NPA take full responsibility for the tragedy. There is no justification for the aggravation this has caused the Absalon family,” CPP information officer Marco Valbuena said in a statement.

The communist group also expressed “deep remorse over the untimely and unnecessary deaths” of the cousins resulting from “errors in the military action mounted by an NPA unit.”

DILG calls on CPP-NPA to turn over members responsible for Masbate mine blast

MANILA, Philippines—The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) has called on the Communist Party of the Philippines-New People’s Army (CPP-NPA) to turn over members involved in the Masbate mine blast.

After the CPP-NPA took responsibility for the incident, DILG Secretary Eduardo Año said the group should be held accountable for the death of football player Kieth Absalon and his cousin Novlen Absalon.

“Now that the CPP-NPA has accepted full responsibility for the senseless murder, it now becomes their duty to turn over the terrorists responsible for the deaths so that justice maybe served to their families and loved ones,” he said in a statement. Año also assured the safety of the suspects while undergoing trial.

“The ends of justice require that those responsible must be held accountable for their crimes against the people under the laws of the Republic of the Philippines,” he said.

The Philippine National Police (PNP) and the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) are prepared to file criminal charges against the CPP-NPA members involved in the incident. AAC (with reports from Lea Ylagan)
