QUEZON CITY, Philippines —

“Since January 1, nasa 200 kilos na tayo, around 4,800 arrested already,” dagdag pa nito.

MANILA, Philippines – More than P500 million worth of suspected methamphetamine hydrochloride (locally known as shabu) was intercepted by authorities at a checkpoint in Gandara town in Samar on Thursday.

Operatives from the Philippines National Police (PNP) and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) seized the illegal drugs which were contained in 44 plastic packs, weighing more than 88 kilograms.

Authorities said the contraband was intercepted from two vehicles that were stopped at a checkpoint at Barangay Buñagan.

“During the checkpoint, mayroong nakalagay sa trunk, may nakalagay sa back seat… Medyo suspicious ‘yung action nung may bag sa likuran,” Eastern Visaysa Police Director Brigadier General Dionardo Carlos said.

The operation yielded the arrest of five suspects, including a pregnant woman, and the rescue of one minor.

Suspects presented to the media claimed they do not know each other, adding that they were just given instructions through a cellphone call to drive the vehicles and leave it when they reached the specified destination.

They were allegedly promised to receive P20,000 each after the transaction but they claimed to have not known about the identity of their client.

Drug-related charges are being readied against the suspects. — RRD (with details from Correspondent Jennelyn Gaquit-Valles)

MANILA, Philippines – Authorities on Sunday arrested a man who abandoned his luggage filled with P35 million worth of shabu (methamphetamine hydrochloride) at the Terminal 1 of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA).

The Bureau of Customs (BOC) said the owner of the luggage – a Filipino national who boarded an early morning flight from Hanoi, Vietnam on Sept. 28 – fled the airport and abandoned his brown trolley bag and a backpack when subjected to physical inspection.

Upon closer examination, the luggage yielded white crystalline shabu weighing more or less 5.16 kilograms, the BOC said.

The BOC-NAIA, with the help of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA), arrested the suspect in Tarlac City around 4 p.m. of the same day.

The suspect will be charged with violations of the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act and the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act.

30 kilograms of illegal drugs sealed in Chinese tea packets confiscated by authorities in Pasig City on September 16, 2019

MANILA, Philippines – Some P204-million worth of suspected shabu (crystal meth) were confiscated by authorities during a raid on a rented condominium unit in Pasig City on Monday.

Joint operatives of the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) stormed the condominium unit in Barangay Rosario at past 7 p.m. following information that this was being used as a warehouse for illegal drugs.

Authorities nabbed a suspect, identified as Manolito Lugo Carlos alias “Lito” and “Tonge,” who was allegedly working for a detainee at the New Bilibid Prisons.

He acts as the main distributor of the said illegal drugs in Metro Manila and nearby provinces.

Gen. Guillermo Eleazar said.

Recovered from the suspect was a total of 30 kilograms of illegal drugs sealed in Chinese tea packets which were similar to illegal drugs confiscated by authorities in previous operations.

The arrested suspect, who was brought to the NCRPO office, will face charges for violation of Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002. RRD (with details from Correspondent Asher Cadapan Jr.)
