Some P1.656 billion worth of shabu were seized in a buy-bust operation conducted in Dasmariñas City, Cavite, the Philippine National Police (PNP) said.

In a statement, PNP chief Police General Guillermo Eleazar said the operation was jointly conducted by elements from the PNP, Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA), the National Intelligence Coordinating Agency (NICA), the Bureau of Customs (BOC) and the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP).

The PNP said the operation conducted in a parking lot in Barangay Salitran 2 along Aguinaldo Highway also resulted in the arrest of Wilfredo Blanco and Megan Lemon Pedroro, both are residents of Montalban, Rizal.

Seized were 240 kilos and the van reportedly being used by the suspects in the transportation of the illegal drugs.

Eleazar lauded police personnel and concerned law enforcement agencies for the successful operation.

“Muling nagbunga ang maayos na koordinasyon ng ating intelligence and law enforcement agencies matapos makakumpiska ulit tayo ng mahigit P1.6 billion na halaga ng shabu sa isang operasyon sa Dasmariñas, Cavite,” he said.

“I commend all the PNP personnel who took part in this operation as we take this as another motivation to work further in ensuring the safety of our kababayan, especially our youth, against the threat of illegal drugs,” he added.

The PNP said the operation in Dasmariñas City was part of the series of anti-drug operations that started with the confiscation of some P3.4 billion worth of shabu in Zambales, and more than P1 billion worth more of shabu in the follow-up operations in Bataan and Cavite.

The three separate operations last month were based on the coordination among the PNP, BOC, NICA and the AFP with the PDEA as the lead agency, it added.

Ombudsman junks CIDG petition vs Abayalde anew

MANILA, Philippines — The Office of the Ombudsman has rejected anew the motion filed by the Philippine National Police-Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (PNP-CIDG) seeking the reversal of the decision to acquit former PNP chief Police General Oscar Abayalde of graft charges filed against him.

In its resolution, the Ombudsman said the CIDG’s motion still lack sufficient evidence that will pin down Abayalde to the case.

The resolution added that the CIDG did not submit new arguments that will prove the involvement of the retired general in the case.

“We can coordinate perhaps with NBI at police para surveillance, ano, ma-determine sino yung mga yan—grupo ba sila or individual, et cetera, et cetera,” ani Cabarios.

Eleazar orders nighttime patrols for holiday carolers

Robie de Guzman   •   November 11, 2021

MANILA, Philippines — Outgoing Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Guillermo Eleazar on Thursday directed police personnel to begin nighttime patrols after the government approved the conduct of street caroling this holiday season.

In a statement, Eleazar said the patrols should be conducted to ensure the security and safety of carolers.

Eleazar also urged the public to continue observing health protocols and to not be complacent amid declining COVID-19 cases in the country.

“Kahit pa bumababa ang kaso ng COVID-19, hindi ito dahilan upang maging kampante at magpabaya sa pagsunod sa minimum public health standards,” he said.

The Department of Health earlier said that carolers must wear face mask and face shield as individuals expel more respiratory particles when singing, posing the risk of COVID-19 transmission.
