MANILA, Philippines — Twelve individuals were arrested in a series of anti-illegal drugs operations of the Northern Police District (NPD) in Malabon City, Wednesday night.

Authorities first arrested alleged drug pusher Marvin Orano alias Mabong.

Mabon, meanwhile, named the 11 individuals he has been supplying with illegal drugs.

Eighty-four grams of suspected shabu, two hand grenades, a gun, and ammunition were seized from the arrested suspects.

Meanwhile, John Paul Torres alias JP was not able to resist arrest during a buy-bust operation in Columbia Corner St. Mary’s Street, in Cubao Quezon City, Wednesday night.

An informant tipped off authorities about the suspect’s peddling of illegal drugs, and that many of his customers were tricycle drivers in Cubao.

Six sachets of suspected shabu were confiscated by the Quezon City police from Torres.

“According sa SDEU, yung kanilang intelligence report ay nagbebenta sa mga tricycle driver rin dito sa barangay na ito,” said QCPD Station 7 commander PSupt. Louise Benjie Tremor.

(According to SDEU intelligence report, he sells to tricycle drivers here in this barangay.)

Torres, on the other hand, denied selling the contraband but admitted to using illicit drugs.

“Kapag may gagawin akong importante, kunyari may gagawin ako sa bahay, gagawin sa motor. Pampagana lang po,” said the suspect.

Malabon vaccination plan targets 180,000 residents to receive vaccine

MALABON, Philippines — Malabon City targets 180,000 of its residents to get inoculated with the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) vaccine.

According to the Department of Health (DOH), the vaccination program of Malabon can begin in March or April once the procured vaccines arrive in February.

Malabon procured P50 million worth of COVID-19 vaccines. The city already designated 11 vaccination sites and also targets to inoculate 1,100 individuals per day. Medical frontliners and the elderly are the main priority of the city’s vaccination program.

Malabon Mayor Antolin Oreta will also voluntarily get vaccinated to encourage his constituents to receive the vaccine. He reported that only 30% of the residents are willing to get inoculated with the COVID-19 vaccine.

“We still have to convince the masses na kailangan, importante magpabakuna. Maybe set an example papabakuna din tayo (that it is necessary, important to get vaccinated. Maybe set an example, we will also get inoculated). I think that’s one aspect of it,” he said.

Oreta is also open for Malabon residents to choose the brand of the vaccine they want to receive. -AAC (with reports from Aiko Miguel)

Undocumented fish imports seized in Malabon City

Marje Pelayo   •   December 2, 2020

MANILA, Philippines — A total of 467 boxes of imported fish of different species were seized from two dealers during a recent market denial operation in Malabon City.

In a report published on Wednesday (December 2), the Department of Agriculture – Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (DA-BFAR) said the illegal packages were seized by the agency’s team of law enforcers and fisheries inspectors in an operation held on Monday (November 30).

The operation is in line with the directives from BFAR National Director Eduardo Gongona to intensify efforts against illegal importation.

According to the report, one of the fish dealers was unable to present the necessary importation documents of fish intended for wet markets when asked by authorities.

The required documents include Sanitary and Phytosanitary Import Certificate, delivery receipts, and transport clearance, without which is a violation of Sec. 105 or unlawful importation and exportation of fish or fishery species of Republic Act (RA) 8550, as amended by RA 10654 and in relation to FAO 195.

Meanwhile, the delivery receipt presented by the second dealer does not match the delivery receipt being issued by the alleged importing company, as per verification with the importer.

Notices of Violation for the filing of administrative cases were already issued to the dealers of imported fish.

The seized items, which include boxes of galunggong, mackerel, squid, yellow tail salmon, and moonfish, are kept in a storage facility under the custody of the apprehending team.
