MANILA, Philippines – The North Luzon Expressway Corp. (NLEX) on Tuesday announced it is hiring more than 1,500 technical and skilled workers to accelerate the construction of the 8-kilometer NLEX Connector.
The project is an all-vehicle class elevated expressway that will traverse the Caloocan Interchange, 5th Avenue/C3 Road in Caloocan City pass through España, and eventually link up with the Metro Manila Skyway Stage 3 at PUP Sta. Mesa in Manila.
“We are currently working on the first five-kilometer section of the NLEX Connector from Grace Park, Caloocan City to España St., Sampaloc, Manila. As projected, more than 1,500 workers are needed to accelerate the construction works,” NLEX president and general manager J. Luigi Bautista said.
Bautista said the priority in the hiring of workers will be given to overseas Filipino workers who have been displaced by the coronavirus pandemic.
The P23-billion NLEX Connector aims to significantly cut travel time from NLEX to South Luzon Expressway from two hours to about 20 minutes.
The project is also envisioned to provide improved accessibility for cargo trucks bound for the Manila Ports and the international airports such as NAIA and Clark.
“It is also seen to benefit 35,000 motorists who will be spared from using Metro Manila’s congested city roads since they will traverse their routes mostly above the alignment of the Philippine National Railways,” NLEX said.
The NLEX Connector Project is expected to be completed by 2021.

President Rodrigo Duterte headed the final inspection of the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX) Harbor Link C3-R10 Section on Thursday (March 5).
“Let me assure you that this administration will continue to pursue road infrastructure development throughout the country,” he said during his speech.
The P6.5 billion worth expressway is already 90% complete and is expected to divert 30,000 vehicles daily from traffic choke points in the cities of Caloocan, Malabon, Navotas, and Valuenzuela (CAMANAVA).
Travel time is expected to be cut from 60 minutes to just 10 minutes.
Department of Works and Highways (DPWH) Secretary Mark Villar, meanwhile, said the department might decongest EDSA this year.
“With this project alone, we hope to relieve Metro Manila of 30,000 trucks, and vehicles. This 2020, by this Christmas, the landscape of Metro Manila will be changed completely,” he said.
The Harbor Link also aims to boost economic activity in the CAMANAVA area.—AAC (with reports from Rosalie Coz)
