MANILA – The Light Rail Transit Authority (LRTA) launches today a system called Passenger Assist Rail Display.

The new system would allow passengers determine the time of arrival and departure of trains in every LRT-2 station.

The LTRA will install 40 monitors in each train of LRT-2 that can display the cause of delay in each trip.

Of the ten trains of the LRT-2, only one has been installed with the Passenger Assist Rail Display system which will be fully operational in June.

After the installation of all monitors, the developer plans to create a mobile application that passengers can install in their cellphones.

“It will include announcements, emergency situations. All administrative announcements of LRTA can be coursed through this part,” LRT Administrator Gen. Reynaldo Berroya said.  – Joan Nano | UNTV News & Rescue

Some LRT coaches for rehabilitation

MANILA, Philippines — Twenty-four light rail vehicles (LRVs) of Light Rail Transit Line 1 (LRT1) will undergo rehabilitation before August.

This project will be the first overhaul of the propulsion system of generation 2 trains since its procurement in 1999.

The propulsion system is responsible for the train’s operation.

According to the operator of LRT-1, Light Rail Manila Corp. (LRMC), commuters can expect better service after the mass rail system rehabilitation.

“Reliability is even higher. And they’re not only replacing ‘yung propulsion. Lahat ng system nito, air-conditioning, lahat, pati brake systems, talagang maayos,” said LRMC COO Engr. Rudy Chansuyco.

(Reliability is even higher. And they’re not only replacing the propulsion. All systems including air-conditioning, brake systems — everything.)

The management said passenger surge can reach up to 500,000 a day.

The rail operator ensured that passengers will not be affected by the two-year rehabilitation program.

“Well, rest assured walang dapat ipangamba yung mga passengers natin kasi ‘yung time table natin naka set na. Lahat naman ng kailangan ng time table, required number of trains, tumatakbo lahat ‘yan. Actually, may reserve pa tayo,” said the officer.

(Well, rest assured the passengers have nothing to worry because our time table has already been set.  All the requirements of the time table, required number of trains, they’re all functioning. Actually, we even have reserves.)

The management allotted over P500,000-billion for the repair.

Meanwhile, the Department of Transportation (DOTr) signed last month the procurement of 120 new LRVs for delivery in 2020. — UNTV News & Rescue

DOH programs posted in train coaches of LRT Line 2

by UNTV News   |   Posted on Wednesday, January 31st, 2018

MANILA, Philippines – The Department of Health (DOH) has launched “Train Wrap” in LRT Line 2 that contains postings of health reminders and tips for its passengers.

According to Health Secretary Francisco Duque III, the move would help inform LRT’s millions of passengers and the public in general about the importance of their health. This way,  people would find it difficult to disregard the advice of the agency.

“This is a very good medium by which we can bring to the consciousness of the riding public and the public in general. This is an important public health campaign of the DOH and in view of bringing health closer to our people,” Duque said.

Also posted inside and outside of the LRT train coaches is the information about the programs of DOH.

Inside the train are the various health tips like the proper washing of hands, covering of nose and mouth when coughing, the benefits of blood donation, and the agency’s immunization programs including information on anti-dengue vaccines.

According to the DOH, the agency has allotted Php 4-million for the launching of the said program.

With this, four LRT Line 2 coaches will have postings of health tips.

The DOH Train Wrap is the first ever program of the agency in coordination with the LRTA that pushes for health innovation using technology to reach ordinary Filipinos.

‘This is the first time that we will do this in the Department of Health. We know our people these days would like to do so many things but with so little time and opportunity lie waiting for the train to come, looking at people, getting out of the train are opportunities wherein important messages of health can be read, can be understood,” said DOH Office of Technical Services Usec. Gerardo Bayugo.

“We are taking advantage of this partnership with LRTA,” he added.

Meanwhile, Director Bello of the Health Promotions and Communication Services said the program is a good way to inform Filipinos who are busy on a daily basis and seem to forget about various health information.

“If we intensify this program to reveal information about health, at least, 50%-80% of public health is done. We need to prevent the occurrence of disease or ailments because as we all know an ounce of prevention is worth than a pound of cure,” said the director.
