MANILA, Philippines – It is all systems go for the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) as far as their laid-out security measures for the Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games) are concerned.
NCRPO acting director PBGen Debold Sinas said 8,000 police are to be deployed to guard the 27 billet areas and 20 venues for the 24 sports activities in Metro Manila.
The deployment of the police will start on November 22, and the full alert status of the police force will be from November 25 to December 14. Sinas also said that they will assign plainclothes policemen in the venues and the hotels where delegates and heads of states will be billeted.
“Ni-limit talaga yung mga long firearms natin so mga short firearms lang, nilimit yung long firearms, fatigue uniform to periperal para di sila maalarma,” Sinas said.
He added that, to date, they have not received any security threats in Metro Manila in relation to the country’s hosting of the SEA Games.
“We just comply with the directive to secure the venues, the road, and the billet areas, no threat has been received as of now,” Sinas added.

MANILA, Philippines – Senator Sherwin Gatchalian on Wednesday called for more support for Filipino athletes amid the country’s dominance in the 30th Southeast Asian (SEA) Games.
Gatchalian made the call after the Philippine team clinched the overall championship for this year’s edition of the games.
The country concluded its campaign with the final medal haul of 386 – 149 golds, 117 silvers and 120 bronzes – which broke its previous record.
In 2005, the country was also the overall champion when it bagged 113 gold medals.
This year’s biennial meet is considered to be the biggest SEA games held with 56 sports and 530 events in 44 venues across the country.
More than a thousand Filipino athletes participated in the event.
The lawmaker stressed that it is important for all sectors, including the government, academe, and the private sector to strengthen the infrastructural, financial, and policy support to athletes considering their role in fostering national unity and boosting national pride.
The senator also reiterated the need to establish the Philippine High School for Sports (PHSS) as a crucial step for the grassroots development of sports.
The proposed school will be built at New Clark City in Capas, Tarlac to develop future generations of Filipino athletes through physical education and sports development subjects.
The Senate Committee on Basic Education, Arts and Culture Chairman said that the rollout for the PHSS is being eyed by next year.
Gatchalian, who chairs the Senate committee on basic education, arts and culture, said the rollout for the PHSS is being eyed by next year.
The lawmaker also emphasized that corporate sponsors and international donors should work together to assist government efforts to institutionalize academic support for sports.
Likewise, local governments should boost their sports programs and facilities while being on the lookout for potential talents.
