MRT to offer free rides to PWDs from July 17 to 23

MANILA, Philippines—In celebration of the 43rd National Disability Prevention and Rehabilitation (NDPR) week, the Metro Rail Transit (MRT-3) will offer free rides to persons with disability (PWDs).

In an advisory on Friday (July 16), the MRT management said the free rides will be for the week-long celebration of the NDPR from July 17 to 23.

Free rides will be available from 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. and from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Commuters who want to avail the MRT-3 free ride need to present their PWD identification card to the security personnel.

The MRT-3 management reminds commuters to strictly follow minimum health safety protocols to prevent the spread of the coronavirus disease. AAC

MRT-3 reopens to commuters aged 18 to 65 starting Sept.16

MANILA, Philippines – Starting Thursday (September 16), commuters aged 18 to 65 are allowed to board MRT-3 trains during the implementation of Alert Level 4 in the National Capital Region (NCR).

However, commuters aged 17 below and those with health risks are still not allowed on MRT-3 trains pursuant to the guidelines issued by the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF).

MRT-3 trains will only accept passengers at 30% capacity, equivalent to 124 persons per train car or 372 persons per train set.

The MRT-3 management strictly reminds passengers to observe the “7 Commandments” against COVID-19 as recommended by health experts:

1) Always wear a face mask and face shield
2) Observe the ‘no talking’ and ‘no answering of phone’ policies
3) No eating inside train
4) Maintain proper ventilation
5) Conduct regular disinfection
6) Persons with symptoms of COVID-19 are barred inside stations
7) Always maintain proper physical distance

Train operations from North Avenue station begin at 4:37 AM while the first car from Taft Avenue Station departs at 5:17 AM.

The last car from North Avenue station departs at 9:30 PM while the last car from Taft Avenue station departs at 10:10 PM.

MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Transportation (DOTr) announced that authorized persons outside residence (APORs) or those known as essential workers may still enjoy free train rides at MRT-3, LRT-2 and the Philippine National Railways (PNR) as the implementation of the modified enhanced community quarantine (MECQ) in Metro Manila is extended until September 15.

However, the managements of MRT-3, LRT-2 and PNR remind APORs, that only those vaccinated may avail of the free rides, regardless if it is only their first dose or they are already fully vaccinated.

The schedule of free train rides for vaccinated APORs is as follows:

MRT-3
7:00 AM to 9:00 AM
5:00 PM to 7:00 PM.

LRT-2
5:00 AM to 7:00 AM
9:00 AM to 5:00 PM
7:00 PM to 9:00 PM

Philippine National Railways (PNR)
4:00 AM to 6:00 AM
9:00 AM to 4:00 PM
7:00 PM onwards

To avail of the free ride, APORs must present their respective vaccination cards and valid IDs to the assigned security personnel at the station as proof.

Other credentials that may be presented include Certificate of Employment (COE); Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) ID; or company ID.

The DOTr reminds the public that only APORs are allowed to use the MRT-3 under MECQ.

Trains are operating at 30% passenger capacity which is equivalent to 124 passengers per train or a total of 372 persons per train set.

Passengers are reminded to observe the strict health protocols inside trains and train stations specifically the ‘7 Commandments’ against COVID-19:

1) Always wear a face mask and face shield;
2) No talking policy is applied at all times;
3) No eating;
4) Maintain proper ventilation in all public transportation;

DOTr extends free train rides for vaccinated APORs until September 7

MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Transportation (DOTr) announced it will extend free train rides to vaccinated Authorized Persons Outside Residence (APOR) due to the extension of the modified enhanced community quarantine (MECQ) in Metro Manila until September 7.

The free rides will cover the Metro Rail Transit Line 3 (MRT-3), the Light Rail Transit Line 2 (LRT-2), and the Philippine National Railways (PNR) at selected hours.

Free train rides for MRT-3 and LRT -2 will be from 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. and from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

For PNR, it will be from 4 a.m. to 6 a.m.; 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.; and 7 p.m. onwards.

A DOTr advisory said that to avail of the free rides, vaccinated APORS who have received either their 1st or 2nd dose of vaccine should present their vaccination card and certificate of APOR status. AAC
