MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Transportation (DOTr) has ordered the early dispatch of bus augmentation service at the Metro Rail Transit Line 3 (MRT-3) starting Thursday (July 9).

This is in response to the call of commuters affected by the temporary shutdown of the train service.

As ordered by DOTr Secretary Arthur Tugade, the bus augmentation service will begin deployment of units at 4:00AM from the previous schedule of 5:30AM.

Para sa bayan,” said MRT-3 Director for Operations Michael J. Capati.

The adjustment is to minimize the queue of commuters at designated stations especially during morning rush hour.

Also, Tugade instructed the MRT-3 management to strictly follow the three-minute regular dispatch system of bus units.

The temporary shutdown of MRT-3 service has been ordered to give way to the mass RT-PCR [swab] testing among employees and personnel which includes maintenance workers and subcontractors to curb the spread of coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

Based on the latest record of the DOTr, the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases among MRT-3 personnel is at 202.

MRT-3 defers scheduled weekend repair works due to Typhoon Rolly

MANILA, Philippines – The scheduled suspension of Metro Rail Transit line 3 (MRT-3) operations on Saturday, Oct. 31 to Monday, Nov. 2, will be postponed, the rail line management announced Friday.

In an advisory, the MRT-3 management said Transportation Secretary Arthur Tugade allowed the deferment in light of the expected effects of Typhoon Rolly in Metro Manila.

The MRT-3 was supposed to conduct repair works in its 34.5-kilovolt alternating current (kV AC) switch gear in its depot as well as turnouts at the Taft Avenue Station.

The line management said no new dates have been set for the weekend shutdown.

The state weather bureau earlier warned that Typhoon Rolly may bring destructive winds up to signal number 4 over some areas in Luzon.

In its 11 a.m. bulletin, the typhoon, with international name Goni, is likely to make landfall off the coast of Bicol region towards the eastern coast of Aurora-Quezon area on Sunday evening or Monday morning.

Rolly was last seen 1,100 kilometers east of Central Luzon, packing maximum sustained winds of 165 kilometers per hour (km/h) near the center and gustiness of up to 205 km/h.

MRT-3 to suspend operations from Oct. 31 to Nov. 2

MANILA, Philippines – The management of the Metro Rail Transit line 3 (MRT-3) reminded the public about the suspension of its operations starting Saturday, Oct. 31 until Monday, Nov. 2.

In an advisory on Thursday, the MRT-3 said the temporary shutdown will be implemented to give way to bushing replacement works at the depot and the turnout activity at the Taft Avenue Station by its maintenance provider, Sumitomo-MHI-TESP.

The rail line management further said that the turnout repair works at Taft Avenue Station will also continue.

To recall, the MRT-3 implemented partial operations on Oct. 10 to 11 to give way to turnout repair activities.

“Ang mga aktibidad na ito ay bahagi ng massive rehabilitation and maintenance na isinasagawa sa buong linya ng MRT-3 ng Sumitomo-Mitsubishi Heavy Industries mula sa bansang Hapon,” the MRT-3 said.

MRT-3 to suspend ops from Oct. 31 to Nov. 2 for maintenance works

Robie de Guzman   •   October 21, 2020

MANILA, Philippines – The management of the Metro Rail Transit line 3 (MRT-3) on Wednesday announced the temporary suspension of rail operations next week.

In an advisory, the MRT-3 said it will temporarily shut down its operations from Oct. 31 to Nov. 2 to give way to maintenance and rehabilitation works.

The line management further said that the turnout replacement works in Taft Avenue Station will also continue.

To recall, the MRT-3 implemented partial operations on Oct. 10 to 11 to give way to turnout repair activities.

A turnout or railroad switch is a mechanical installation enabling railway trains to be guided from one track to another railway junction.

MRT-3 maintenance works were initially scheduled earlier this year but was postponed due to the effects of the coronavirus pandemic.

This is part of the ongoing massive rehabilitation project being conducted by the railway’s maintenance provider, Sumitomo-Mitsubishi Heavy Industries.

The MRT-3 said the maintenance work has resulted in no unloading incidents since June, restoration of escalators and elevators in all stations, and the enhancement of train speed from 30 kilometers per hour (kph) to 40 kph.

The rail management hopes to further increase the train speed up to 60 kph when repair works for turnouts are completed in December.
