MMDA readies convoy simulation for SEA Games; advises public to expect heavy traffic

MANILA, Philippines – The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) will conduct a simulation of traffic in preparation for the Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games) that the Philippines will host on November 30.

The MMDA warns motorists and the riding public to expect heavy traffic and inconvenience.

The simulation of the supposed convoy of athletes and delegates of the SEA Games will take place from 1:00 to 4:00 in the afternoon on Thursday (November 14).

From the different hotels in Tagaytay, Pasay, Manila, Subic, and Clark in Pampanga, the convoy will pass through EDSA, other major thoroughfares in Metro Manila, and the North Luzon Expressway until it reaches the venue for the opening of the SEA Games in Bulacan.

Affected areas are the northbound lanes of EDSA, as well as on Mindanao Avenue, North Avenue, Quirino Highway, Taft Avenue, Magallanes, and the South Luzon Expressway (SLEX).

MMDA spokesperson Asec. Celine Pialago said they will implement the Stop and GO Scheme in the affected thoroughfares in Metro Manila.

The convoy will pass through the yellow lanes on EDSA as the MMDA has not assigned any special lane for that purpose.

There will also be no street that will be closed for the simulation of the convoy.

Meanwhile, the MMDA said the rehearsal for the SEA Games will also be held on November 26, and this is seen to also cause heavy traffic.

Aside from the convoy of athletes and delegates, the MMDA will also be preparing for the arrival and departure of visitors who will watch the SEA Games.

The MMDA will also conduct simulation of traffic in going back from the venue to the hotels where the athletes, delegates and visitors who will watch the SEA Games will be billeted. (from the report of Joan Nano) /mbmf

MANILA, Philippines—The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) and mall operators will discuss extending mall hours in preparation for the holiday season.

In a media briefing, MMDA chairman Benhur Abalos said the extension of mall hours will help avoid the influx of shoppers during rush hours. The MMDA will also discuss conducting sales only on weekends to avoid traffic congestion.

We can extend it] up to 10:00 p.m. or even midnight to prevent customers from flocking to the malls en-masse),” he said.

The Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-EID) has placed the National Capital Region (NCR) under Alert Level 3 after recording a decline in the number of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases. AAC

Commonwealth-University Avenue Zipper Lane reopened to address heavy traffic

Robie de Guzman   •   October 18, 2021

The Commonwealth-University Avenue Zipper Lane reopened on Monday to ease heavy traffic along Commonwealth Avenue going to Philcoa and Elliptical Road, the Quezon City government said.

In an advisory, the city government said that the zipper lane will be open from 6 a.m. to 11 a.m. from Monday to Friday to vehicles bound for the University of the Philippines, C.P. Garcia Avenue, and Katipunan Avenue.

The zipper lane will start at UP Techno-Hub slot and end at the corner of Commonwealth Avenue and University Avenue by the entrance to the UP Campus.

Garcia Avenue, at Katipunan Avenue, upang maiwasan ang Philcoa at Elliptical Road,” the city government said.

“Para sa mga nais gumamit ng Commonwealth-University Avenue Zipper Lane, at sa iba pang apektadong motorista, sundan po natin ang mga Traffic Enforcers ng Quezon City Task Force on Transport and Traffic Management, at ang mga ilalatag na Road Safety Signages,” it added.
