The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) and the House Committee on Transportation are reviewing the reopening of two U-turn slots on EDSA.

The agency said they have received numerous complaints due to the severe traffic being experienced by motorists along EDSA from Quezon Avenue to Balintawak following the closure of U-turn slots in Metro Manila’s major thoroughfare to give way to the EDSA Busway.

MMDA General Manager Jojo Garcia said they already discussed with the House Committee on Transportation about reopening two U-turn slots.

May plano po tayo na magbalik ng dalawang U-turn slots maybe dito sa may North Avenue and Congressional pero may infrastructure po tayo na gagawin diyan para hindi maabala flow ng traffic (We have plans to reopen two U-turn slots along North Avenue and Congressional but we will install an infrastructure there so as not to disrupt the flow of traffic),” he said.

The MMDA reported there are 200,000 – 300,000 vehicles plying EDSA every day.

The agency will also implement a Stop and Go scheme for vehicles plying A. Bonifacio and North Luzon Expressway (NLEX). -AAC (with reports from Joan Nano)

MMDA chief Danny Lim tests positive for COVID-19

Robie de Guzman   •   December 29, 2020

MANILA, Philippines – Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) chairman Danny Lim on Tuesday confirmed that he tested positive for novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

In a Facebook post, Lim said he received information about the result on Monday night after taking a routine swab test.

He said he had been regularly going to work since the community quarantine was implemented in March to maintain MMDA services.

“Kagabi, matapos kong sumailalim sa routine swab test, nakuha ko na ang results at lumabas na positive ako sa COVID-19 sa kabila ng palaging pag-iingat at pagsunod nang maigi sa mga health protocols sa lahat ng pagkakataon,” he said.

“Pinapakita lang nito kung gaano katindi ang COVID-19 at lahat ay pwedeng tamaan,” he added.

Lim said his symptoms remain mild, and that he has been undergoing self-isolation.

“Nananatiling mild ang aking mga sintomas at sinusunod ko ang payo ng aming doktor para maalagaan ko ang aking kalusugan ngayon. I will continue to self-isolate for now,” he said.

“Agad ko rin sinabihan ang lahat ng mga taong may close contact sa akin nitong nakaraang linggo na i-monitor ang kanilang mga sarili at mag self-isolate na nang 14 days,” he added.

Lim said his wife and children tested negative for COVID-19.

“Nagpapasalamat ako nang lubos dahil ang aking maybahay at anak ay negative sa test. Bunga ito ng mahigpit din na pag-observe namin ng health protocols kahit sa bahay,” he said.

Despite contracting the viral disease, the MMDA chairman said he will continue to work remotely and conduct meetings via teleconference.

He also reminded the public to strictly follow health and safety protocols amid the threat of COVID-19.

“Patuloy na mag-ingat ang lahat at bigyang prayoridad ang inyong kalusugan. Sumunod tayo palagi sa health protocols para mapangalagaan ang ating mga sarili pati ang mga nasa paligid natin,” he said.

MMDA to reopen two EDSA U-turn slots on Dec. 18

Marje Pelayo   •   December 16, 2020

MANILA, Philippines — The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) is opening two U-turn slots in EDSA on Friday (December 18).

During the hearing of the House Committee on Metro Manila Development, MMDA General Manager Jojo Garcia announced the reopening of the two U-turn slots along EDSA — one in front of the Quezon City Academy and the other near Dario Bridge.

Garcia said it was in response to the request of Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte to reopen EDSA U-turn slots to ease traffic flow in the said areas.

Following the decision, the Quezon City Task Force on Traffic Management has been tasked to manage the stop-and-go scheme in the mentioned U-turn slots to facilitate the smooth flow of vehicles without interrupting the operation of the EDSA Carousel buses.

The QC government noted, however, that only light vehicles may pass through the U-turn slot in front of QC Academy while the U-turn slot near Dario Bridge will be open for emergency and marked government vehicles only.
