MANILA, Philippines — Strong winds characterized by strong breeze to near gale conditions with occasional gusts will be experienced in Metro Manila and other areas under tropical cyclone wind signal (TCWS) no. 1 as Typhoon Jolina continues to affect the weather condition in the country.
As of 11:00 a.m. Tuesday (September 7), typhoon Jolina has made its fourth landfall in Dimasalang, Masbate and is currently traversing mainland Masbate.
According to the state weather bureau PAGASA, destructive typhoon-force winds are likely to occur within any of the areas under TCWS #3 namely:
the extreme southern portion of Quezon;
Masbate including Ticao and Burias Islands;
the western portion of Albay; and
the western portion of Sorsogon;
the northwestern portion of Samar;
the extreme western portion of Northern Samar; and
the northern portion of Biliran in the Visayas.
Likewise, damaging gale-force to storm-force winds are likely to occur within any of the areas where TCWS #2 to include:
the central and southern portions of Quezon;
the southeastern portion of Batangas; the western portion of Camarines Norte;
the western and southern portions of Camarines Sur;
the rest of Albay;
the rest of Sorsogon; and
the eastern portion of Romblon;
the western portion of Northern Samar;
the northern portion of Samar;
the rest of Biliran
Apart from Metro Manila, other areas under Signal #1 which may experience strong winds within 36 hours include:
the southeastern portion Nueva Vizcaya;
the southern portion Aurora; the southern portion of Zambales;
the rest of Batangas;
the rest of Romblon;
Oriental Mindoro; and
the northern portion Occidental Mindoro;
the rest of Quezon;
the rest of Camarines Norte; and
the rest of Camarines Sur
the rest of Samar;
the rest of Northern Samar;
the northern portion of Cebu;
the northern portion Negros Occidental;
the northern portion of Iloilo;
PAGASA warned that in the next 24 hours, the threat of coastal inundation due to storm surge of up to one meter high continues for several coastal localities of Biliran, Sorsogon, Samar, and Masbate which may pose threat to life and property.
In addition, coastal areas of localities under TCWS, especially those at #2 and #3 may experience coastal flooding due to hazardous surf conditions thus precautionary measures are advised.
