Meralco rates to go down in November

MANILA, Philippines – The Manila Electric Company (Meralco) on Monday announced a slight downward rate adjustment in November, following a decrease in the generation charges for the month.

In an advisory, Meralco said it will reduce rates by P0.0395 per kilowatt hour (kWh) in its November billing.

The rate adjustment is equivalent to a decrease of around P8 for a typical household consuming 200 kWh a month, and P20 for those consuming 500 kWh per month.

Meralco said the rate cut was driven by the downtrend in generation charges for the month due to the reduction in charges from the Wholesale Electricity Spot Market following improved power supply conditions in Luzon grid last month.

Una, tumaas ang demand in Luzon Grid. So between April and May supply month. Aside from the increase in demand, there were also challenges in the supply situation in particular the simultaneous plant outages of generation capacity,” pahayag ni Lawrence Fernandez, ang vice president at head ng Utility Economics ng Meralco.
