MANILA, Philippines – The Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System (MWSS) on Friday slapped west zone concessionaire Maynilad Water Services with a “financial penalty” for service disruption in parts of Las Piñas City.
In an advisory, the MWSS said that its Board of Trustees (BOT) has resolved to penalize Maynilad for its failure to comply with its Service Obligations under the concession agreement.
This is due to its failure to provide 24/7 water services to its customers who were severely affected by the service interruption last May 2019 in portions of Barangay Captain Albert Aguilar in Las Piñas City.
“Based on evidence gathered by the MWSS Regulatory Office (MWSS RO), it was determined that Maynilad customers who were severely affected in the above-mentioned area were deprived of water service with a minimum pressure of seven psi for a period of more than 15 days,” the agency said.
Maynilad has been ordered to rebate P2,500 per household in the severely affected areas, to be applied to succeeding water bills or statements of account until fully expended.
In a statement, Maynilad said it has yet to receive the official notice from the MWSS pertaining to its decision on imposing a penalty.
“We will coordinate with our regulators to determine the rationale behind their decision and how they arrived at their computations,” the company said.
“We will set our next course of action based on this discussion,” it added.
MANILA, Philippines – The Maynilad Water Services has announced a schedule of temporary water service interruptions in parts of Metro Manila from August 20 (Tuesday) to August 21 (Wednesday).
In an advisory, Maynilad said the water service disruption slated from August 20 at 6 p.m. to August 21 at 6 a.m. will affect several areas of Manila, Caloocan, Malabon, and Navotas.
The west zone water concessionaire said the service interruption is due to maintenance activities aimed at improving water services.
Below is the list of affected barangays and their corresponding supply interruption schedules:
Barangay 124 to 127
Barangay 129 to 146
Dalagang Bukid East/C3
Barangay North Bay Blvd.
San Rafael Village
Maynilad urged its customers to store water at least three days before the scheduled interruption to prevent simultaneous heavy withdrawals of water from its pipelines, which can reduce water pressure and cause some customers to have no water earlier than scheduled.
The water concessionaire assured water tankers will be on standby to deliver water to affected areas as needed.
Upon resumption of water service, customers are also advised to let the water flow out for a few seconds until the water clears.
MANILA, Philippines – The Supreme Court on Tuesday ordered the Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System (MWSS) and water concessionaires, Manila Water and Maynilad to pay fines for their non-compliance of the Clean Water Act.
In its decision, the SC fined Manila Water and Maynilad both with more than P900 million. The same amount of fine is required for Manila Water to be jointly paid with the MWSS for the period of May 7, 2009 until the date of promulgation.
The concessionaires are required to pay the fine within 15 days from receipt of a copy of the ruling.
From receipt of the decision until the fine is fully paid, they shall also pay the amount of P322,000 per day for every day of their non-compliance with the Clean Water Act.
The SC added that a legal interest of six percent per annum will also be applied.
