MANILA, Philippines – Water concessionaires Maynilad Water Services Inc. and Manila Water Company Inc. will extend the implementation of their no disconnection policy until the end of the modified enhanced community quarantine (MECQ), the Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System (MWSS) on Monday said.

“This is to inform the public that the MWSS Regulatory Office (RO) has directed Manila Water Company, Inc. and Maynilad Water Services, Inc., to extend their suspension of all service disconnection activities (whether temporary or permanent) until such time that the modified enhanced community quarantine (MECQ) has been lifted,” MWSS chief regulator Patrick Lester Ty said in a statement.

Metro Manila and the nearby provinces of Cavite, Bulacan, Rizal, and Laguna have been placed under modified enhanced community quarantine (MECQ) from April 12 to April 30.

Water concessionaires are also directed to provide an uninterrupted 24-hour water supply in their service areas.

“This is to ensure that all customers receive clean and adequate water supply for their health and sanitation requirements, especially during this difficult time of the pandemic,” Ty said.

Meanwhile, the MWSS RO asked concerned local government units to assist water concessionaires as they conduct their meter reading and billing activities during the period of MECQ.

Maynilad defers pipe realignment activity, reschedules water service interruption

Maris Federez   •   October 25, 2021

MANILA, Philippines —  Maynilad Water Services Incorporated (Maynilad) will defer its scheduled pipe realignment activity along Sobriedad Street corner Cristobal Street in Manila that was initially set for October 25 to 28.

The new time frame for the pipe realignment activity is from October 29 to November 1.

Maynilad said the pipe realignment activity is in preparation for the flood control project of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).

The water concessionaire said that the setting of new schedule was prompted by requests from residents in areas in Manila and Cavite that will be affected by the water service interruption as a result of the said activity.

Affected residents have requested that they be given more time to store enough water and prepare for the service interruption.

Maynilad added that except for the schedule, affected areas of the water service interruption remain the same.

Maynilad, Manila Water ordered to suspend disconnection activities in areas under Alert Level 5

Aileen Cerrudo   •   September 16, 2021

MANILA, Philippines—The Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System (MWSS) on Thursday (September 16) directed Manila Water Company, Inc. and Maynilad Water Services, Inc. to suspend disconnection activities in areas under Alert Level 5 or areas under granular lockdown.

In a statement, the MWSS said the suspension will remain until such time that the restriction has been lifted.

The directive comes after implementation of alert levels system and granular lockdowns in certain areas of Metro Manila beginning September 16.

“In this critical time when public health relies on access to clean, safe, and sufficient water supply, the Concessionaires have also been directed to ensure water supply availability within their Service Areas,” the MWSS further said.

Meanwhile, for areas not under Alert Level 5, the MWSS encourages Manila Water and Maynilad customers to settle their bills to ensure continuity of services.

To provide assistance to customers who are facing the economic challenges during the pandemic, the agency previously directed the water concessionaires to offer flexible payment terms.

The MWSS also ensured water supply availability within the service areas and encouraged customers to conserve water.

“Rest assured that the MWSS will continue to proactively operationalize measures to aid customers and protect consumer welfare especially in this time of adversity,” the MWSS said. AAC
