Makabayan bloc formally files bill banning substitution of candidates
MANILA, Philippines — Makabayan bloc lawmakers in the House of Representatives have formally filed a bill that seeks to prohibit the substitution of candidates.
Under House Bill No.10287, the substitution of candidates will be prohibited if it is only due to a withdrawal of a candidate from the elections.
The group also wants to declare as nuisance those who filed their candidacy only to be placeholders who will wait until someone else declares his or her intention to run.
“Dito sa mga susog na ito, mga amendments, na clearly maisama for grounds for declaration na isang nuisance candidate kapag ang isang kandidato ay malinaw na placeholder lamang or pseudo candidate at walang intensyon talaga na tumakbo,” said Rep. Carlos Zarate of Bayan Muna Partylist. —/mbmf (with details from UNTV Correspondent Nel Maribojoc)
Duterte to run for senator in 2022 polls
MANILA, Philippines — President Rodrigo Duterte will run for a Senate seat in the 2022 elections, avoiding a faceoff with her daughter Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio in the vice presidential race.
The president filed his certificate of candidacy through his lawyer, Attorney Melchor Aranas, on Monday (November 15), the last day of filing for substitution of candidate.
Partido Demokratiko Pilipino-Lakas ng Bayan (PDP-Laban) Secretary-General Melvin Matibag said Duterte will run under the political party Pederalismo ng Dugong Dakilang Samahan (PDDS).
