MANILA, Philippines – The Land Transportation Office (LTO) awarded to the German company, Trojan Computer Forms Manufacturing Corporation and JH Tonnjes Joint Venture on December 1 the more than P1-billion contract for the production of new license plates.
According to LTO Executive Director Attorney Romeo Vera Cruz, the agency plans to begin distribution of more than 3-million license plates on backlog in March of 2018.

The first batch of applicants who might receive the new license plates includes about 1.7 million motorcycle riders and over 1.5 billion drivers of various vehicles.
“We hope that by March next we will start issuing this plates. It’s not one-time, we will start the issuance because we will be producing this plates,” LTO Executive Director Atty. Romeo Vera Cruz said.
Aside from the 3-million backlog, the LTO also vowed to issue license plates to motorists who are applying for the registration of their vehicles next year.
According to LTO, the new license plates will have a unique security feature.
The agency also promised not to impose additional fees for vehicle registration.
Meanwhile, the LTO awaits the decision the Commission on Audit (COA) and Supreme Court will release regarding the more than 700-thousand unused vehicle plates after its supplier failed to pay import duties.
“While the notice of disallowance in COA remains unresolved as well as the case in Supreme Court, were waiting for the resolution,” LTO Executive Director Atty. Romeo Vera Cruz said.
