Nagtahan Flyover in Manila partially closed for repair

Robie de Guzman   •   October 13, 2021

MANILA, Philippines — The Nagtahan Flyover in Manila will be partially closed for seven months as it undergoes rehabilitation, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) said.

In an advisory, the MMDA said the flyover will be closed from October 2021 until April 2022 to undergo major repairs after cracks and defects were found on the bridge.

Trucks are prohibited from traversing the area, it added.

“Only one lane at a time shall be occupied and only light vehicles are allowed to pass on the flyover and the Nagtahan Service Road,” it said.

The MMDA said the bridge rehabilitation will be done in segments:

  • Segment 1 and 2: Northbound (R. Magsaysay to G. Tuazon) within two months
  • Segment 3: Southbound (G. Tuazon to R. Magsaysay Area) within 1.5 months
  • Segment 4 and 5: Northbound (EARIST to R. Magsaysay Blvd. area) within 2 months
  • Segment 6: Southbound (R. Magsaysay to EARIST area) within 1.5 months

The MMDA advised vehicles going north to take Osmeña Highway, right to Quirino Avenue, left to Quirino Ave. Ext., left to U.N Ave., right to Romualdez St., left to Ayala Blvd, and Roxas Blvd. to destination.

Meanwhile, vehicles going Southbound may take A. Bonifacio Ave., right to C3, R-10, to their destination, it added.

The MMDA said the rehabilitation of the bridge will address the big cracks at its abutment wall and railing, loose steel enclosure of retrofitting on its piers, and rusting steel enclosure of retrofitting at several piers.

The repair also seeks to avoid untoward incidents that the bridge might cause to motorists and other road users.

Part of North Avenue in QC closed from Oct. 15, 2021 to June 1, 2022 – MMDA

Robie de Guzman   •   October 13, 2021

MANILA, Philippines — A portion of the North Avenue (eastbound or going Elliptical Road) in Quezon City will be closed to traffic for eight months, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) said.

In an advisory issued on Tuesday, the MMDA said the closure will start from October 15, 2021 until June 1, 2022.

This is to give way to the ongoing construction of the Metro Rail Transit (MRT) Line 7 project of the Department of Transportation.

The MMDA said vehicles entering Wildlife and Veterans Memorial Medical Center can still pass through North Avenue.

Vehicles going Elliptical Road may take Quezon Avenue via Agham Road as an alternative route.

The MMDA expects that the closure of the said portion of the road would have less impact on traffic as it had been closed to motorists previously.

Garcia stepped down from his post on October 1 for his candidacy as representative of Rizal Third District.

Prior to his designation as general manager, Artes served as MMDA’s assistant general manager for finance and administration.
