MANILA, Philippines — The five-day training of female members of the military and police forces who will be sent to Marawi City on August 29 to help out in the rehabilitation of the city has kicked off.
AFP Public Affairs Office (PAO) Chief Col. Edgard Arevalo said the group is composed of 40 enlisted AFP personnel and 60 non-commissioned PNP officers.
Col. Arevalo stressed that AFP Chief of Staff Gen. Eduardo Año and PNP Chief PDG Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa believe the female soldiers and cops can give great help to the residents affected by the unrest in Marawi.
“The leaderships of the AFP and the PNP see that it would be easier and more approachable if the female members of our troops will be sent,” said Arevalo.
Among the duties of the group is personally speaking with the residents.
“They will be tasked to facilitate … Psycho social intervention, peace building and prevention and countering violent extremism,” said the PAO chief.
This marks the first time the AFP and the PNP will be sending a group of female soldiers and cops to an area with an ongoing battle.

“A month or two, we will recalibrate how fast also we can process kasi baka matambakan kami, sabihin namin mag renew kayo dapat within one month e hindi naman namin kaya ang workload so we have to revisit how many licenses have actually expired and what will be our rate in processing per day,” ani Gamboa.
Maaaring iproseso ang aplikasyon para rito sa Firearms and Explosives Office (FEO), Supervisory Office for Security and Investigation Agencies (SOSIA), One-Stop-Shop Office (OSS) and Regional Civil Security Units (RCSU) ng PNP.
“We will devise scheduling so that we can control the population in any of the different offices of the PNP… Kasi hindi naman kami exempted. We have to observe yung social distancing at mass gathering under GCQ (general community quarantine),” ani Gamboa.

MANILA, Philippines – The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) said it is ready to provide assistance to the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) in the distribution of the second tranche of the emergency subsidy under the government’s Social Amelioration Program (SAP).
In a statement on Wednesday, AFP Spokesperson Marine Brigadier General Edgard Arevalo said the military has coordinated with the DSWD to discuss the process and the security to be provided in the distribution of cash assistance especially in the ‘problematic areas’.
Arevalo said that ‘problematic areas’ include those where SAP anomalies were reported, geographically-isolated barangays in island municipalities and far-flung areas, and locations with reported presence of terrorists and other threat groups.
The military spokesperson expressed confidence that the military will be able to do its part in the mission, as they have undertaken a similar task in the past such as the distribution of election materials in hotspot areas.
“We will employ in this task our experience in distributing election paraphernalia during local polls,” Arevalo said.
He also said that the new task may “affect our security operations” in terms of troop adjustments, but he assured that this is “not enough to hamper operational success.”
