MANILA, Philippines – The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) issued a public health warning against purchase and consumption of five unregistered food products for not going through proper registration and authorization from the agency and “may pose potential health hazard to the consuming public”.
The FDA Advisory No. 2019-010 dated January 10, 2019 identified the five unregistered food products as:
Bonito Soup Stock
Meito Vitamin C Nodoame Mix Fruits (Herb Candy), 1000mg
Daiso Select Carbonara Sauce
Hammer On Pretzel Garlic Butter Taste
Daiso Select Sukiyaki Sauce
Based on the agency’s post-marketing surveillance (PMS) activities, the five products were verified to have not been issued with Certificate of Product Registration.
“Pursuant to Republic Act No. 9711, otherwise known as the “Food and Drug Administration Act of 2009”, the manufacture, importation, exportation, sale, offering for sale, distribution, transfer, non-consumer use, promotion, advertising or sponsorship of health products without the proper authorization from FDA is prohibited,” the advisory read.
The agency argued it cannot guarantee the quality and safety of the said food products as they have not gone through evaluation and testing.
“In light of the foregoing, the public is advised not to purchase the aforementioned violative products,” it added.
“All Local Government Units (LGUs) and Law Enforcement Agencies (LEAs) are requested to ensure that these products are not sold or made available in their localities or areas of jurisdiction,” the advisory further read.
Following the report, the agency asked the public “to be vigilant against food products that might not be duly registered with FDA. Always check if a food product has been registered with FDA before purchasing it by making use of the embedded Search feature of the FDA website accessible at www.fda.gov.ph”.
Failure to secure product authorization has its corresponding penalty and sanction, according to the advisory.
The FDA, meanwhile, encourages the public to e-mail the agency for information and inquiries through firstname.lastname@example.org.
The agency also calls on the public to report continuous sale or distribution of the above unregistered food items through its online reporting facility, eReport, or e-mail email@example.com.
The public may also report to Center for Food Regulation and Research (CFRR) hotline (02) 857-1900 loc. 8115 and 8112. – Marje Pelayo

The FDA has warned establishments against selling these products.
“All concerned establishments are warned not to distribute violative food products until they have been issued the appropriate authorization, a License to Operate (LTO) for the establishment, and a CPR for the food products,” according to the FDA.
They also advised the public to always check if a food product or food supplement is registered with the FDA through their website (www.fda.gov.ph).—AAC
