MANILA, Philippines — Digital transformation is simply an inevitable consequence of human curiosity and ingenuity. The digital landscape is rapidly changing and businesses should keep up with it in order to survive.

IT consulting firm GEP Solutions recognizes the need for small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in the Philippines to digitally transform and innovate to make their products easily accessible to consumers.

However, limited funding causes SMEs to hesitate and defer automation, said Singapore-based digital transformation strategist Lorenz Buizon.

“Dito sa Pilipinas, way behind tayo sa technology. Maraming maliliit na company dito hindi sila nakakasabay sa digitalization. Iyong malalaking company sila ang mas lalong umaasenso,” he said.

“The problem is wala kasing masyadong budget ang maliliit na company para mag-implement ng mga technologies para mag-digitally transform sila,” he added.

The event, “Rocket Boosting your Businesses through Digital Transformation” held at Luxent Hotel in Quezon City on Monday (November 11), gathered experts in the field to share their insights and views on the current trends and challenges that small and big businesses are facing in this digital age.

Singapore-based digital transformation influencer Andrew Chow said businesses need to network with solutions providers in order to cope up with digital disruptions and survive strong competitions in the global economic arena.

“It’s always good to know other partners to collaborate and come up with better solutions. So, collaboration is a new competition,” he stressed.

To help, a total of P1.8 million worth of solutions package was given to SMEs who joined the event with the hope that more opportunities for digitalization will further open for startup companies in the Philippines.

“Sana magamit nila ito, iyong mga natutunan nila, sa business nila para lumawak pa [at dumami] ang gumagawa ng digital transformation,” said Nicolae Steven Gonzalez, President of Rotary Club of Commonwealth.

The said solutions packages will be provided by GEP Solutions.

Since digitalization is the current trend, Buizon said, it is but inevitable for businesses to adopt.

“Iyong transactions nila dapat online na. Ngayon, kung ikaw, company, na maliit kang company, wala ka pang online presence, masyado ka pang manual ang method mo, mapapag-iwanan ka,” he said.

“Iyon kasi ang talagang trend ng market. If you don’t digitalize, mamamatay ang business mo,” he concluded.
