Mitsubishi Motors Philippines Corporation (MMPC) marked the last quarter of 2019 with the launching of its new Montero Sport 2020 at Okada Manila in October.

The event unveiled the new features of the upgraded SUV, which promise a worry-free driving experience with its tougher look, advanced performance and refreshed luxurious interior design.

The team of the automotive magazine show, MANIBELA, witnessed the event to see what’s in store for the Filipino motorists when this much-awaited model hits the country’s streets. 

Montero Sport 2020: Specs, Features and SRPs

Beginning with the exterior part, the Montero Sport 2020 is equipped with Mitsubishi Motors’ signature Dynamic Shield that creates an impactful presence on the road. It gets bolder with its upgraded headlights and LED rear combination lamps at the bumper corners.

Its keyless tailgate provides hands-free access using motion sensors and automatic lock features. You can also set the tailgate to your desired height with its height memory function.

The interior features an 8-inch full LCD meter cluster, a first for a Mitsubishi vehicle that enhances the driver’s cockpit with its easy-to-read and prestigious design. It is also furnished with an 8-way power driver’s seat configuration.

Included in its high-quality interior is an updated infotainment feature with an 8-inch Smartphone-Link Display Audio (SDA) compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

It also improves passengers’ usability with its refreshed floor console, soft padded interior door handles, storage trays under the floor console, and a new AC power outlet at the console rear panel.

Bringing safety to passengers is the manufacturer’s priority, that’s why the new Montero Sport is equipped with several safety features. Some are listed below.

1. Lane Change Assist and Rear Cross Traffic Alert function

2. Hill Start Assist and Hill Descent Control

3. Multi-view camera system that limits blind spots when parking

4. 7 airbags for GT 4WD, 6 airbags for GT 2WD and 2 airbags for the GLS and GLX variants

The SRP for Montero Sport GT 2WD AT is priced at P1,998,000 while the second variant, Montero Sport GLS 2WD AT, has a suggested retail price of P1,769,000.

MRT-3 rehabilitation project begins

MANILA, Philippines – The Department of Transportation (DOTr) announced on Tuesday that the Metro Rail Transit line 3 (MRT-3) rehabilitation project has officially started on May 1.

In a statement, the DOTr said the MRT-3 Maintenance Transition Team (MTT) officially handed over the overall rehabilitation and maintenance works to Sumitomo-Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI)-TES Philippines on April 30.

DOTr Undersecretary for Railways Timothy John Batan led the ceremonial turnover of documents.

Rehabilitation and maintenance works will be done on MRT-3’s electromechanical components, power supply system, rail tracks, depot equipment, elevators and escalators at all its stations. The 72 light rail vehicles (LRVs) will also be overhauled as part of the project.

The repair works are expected to be completed within the first 26 months of the 43-month rehabilitation and maintenance contract.

Within this period, DOTr targets to increase the number of running MRT-3 trains from 15 to 20, double the train operating speed to 60 kilometers per hour and reduce the travel time between trains to 3.5 minutes from the current 7 to 10 minutes. – Robie de Guzman
