MANLA, Philippines — Destroy the enemies of the state.
This is the clear order of President Rodrigo Duterte to the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) and Philippine National Police (PNP) during a command conference in Mawab, Compostella Valley last Monday.
The President announced he wants to eradicate all the terrorists in the country.
“He mentioned that in equivocal terms to destroy the enemy of the state. For the part of the PNP it’s the defeat or destruction of drug syndicates primarily with us the supporting role. But the destruction of CPP-NPA that is our primary task,” 1003rd Infantry Battalion Commander Col. Ernesto Torres said.
With this, the Eastern Mindanao Command (EastMinCom) of the AFP will deploy another battalion of soldiers to help in defeating the members of the Communist Party of the Philippines and New People’s Army or the CPP-NPA.
Three battalions of soldiers have already been deployed at the 1003rd infantry brigade
The military said the Chief Executive also vows to provide funds for the rebels who would surrender to the government.
“He said let us offer something to them, meaning the active rebels, something that is more than what the communist are offering. He made mention of land, houses, and jobs. He said he will find funds for this program that we would be proposing,” Torres said.
Among the counter insurgency measures the government wants to implement is the improvement of the reward system of the AFP and its programs for the indigenous people or Lumads in the region. – Aiko Miguel | UNTV News & Rescue
The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Chief Gen. Gilbert Gapay met with Muslim leaders in Metro Manila to discuss anti-terrorism efforts in the country.
Gapay said the meeting aims to join the forces of the military and Muslim leaders to curb terrorism and other criminal activities that plague the country.
“Our common aspiration is for the good of everyone. Peace, development, security and stability for our country is our primordial concern,” he said.
The AFP official also said the military wants to boost communication with all communities to give the public a better understanding of the military’s goals, especially when implementing anti-terrorism guidelines.
He also wants to further protect schools and orphanages against possible terrorist group recruitment.
“It is also our common aspiration to protect and shield the educational institution, including madaris (Islamic schools) from unscrupulous sectors of society,” Gapay added. AAC (with reports from Lea Ylagan)
MANILA, Philippines – More than 1,000 members of police search and rescue teams have been deployed to assist in areas heavily battered by Typhoon Quinta, the Philippine National Police (PNP) said Monday.
PNP chief General Camilo Cascolan said the search and rescue teams will particularly help local government units in the implementation of forced evacuation in regions severely affected by the typhoon, as well as in areas highly susceptible to landslide and floods following heavy rains.
“We also have to re-echo the directive that we should be able to force evacuate those who are in high risk areas, most specially for flooding,” Cascolan said.
The PNP chief also ordered the deployment of additional 200 policemen to monitor residential areas whose homeowners were forced to evacuate due to the storm.
“We have policemen guarding these areas to prevent looting incidents from happening in those residences,” Cascolan said.
He added that more than 6,000 more police officers are on stand by for deployment.
Cascolan said he has also ordered police ground commanders to help in the distribution of food packs to families in evacuation centers through the PNP’s Food Bank program.
Typhoon Quinta caused flooding in some areas and forced thousands of residents to flee their homes.
Around 12 fishermen were also reported missing in Catanduanes.
The state weather bureau said the storm is expected to exit the Philippine area of responsibility on Tuesday morning. – RRD (with details from Correspondent Lea Ylagan)
