MANILA, Philippines – President Rodrigo Duterte has directed all concerned agencies to bar the release of convicted rapist and murderer former Calauan, Laguna Mayor Antonio Sanchez.

Duterte’s former top aide now Senator Christopher ‘Bong’ Go broke the news on Monday (August 26) on the sidelines of the National Heroes Day ceremony in Taguig City.

Go said the President carefully considered the provisions of Republic Act 10592 or the law that gives inmates the privelege based on the Good Conduct Time Allowance (GCTA).

Malacañang maintains that Sanchez does not deserve to benefit from the GCTA system because his case is a heinous crime.

It was also Senator Go who revealed that the President was furious over the news of Sanchez’ impending release.

Meanwhile, Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra said he received a request from the Palace asking to hold the processing of Sanchez’ prison records until the review of the factual and legal issues is completed.

Go, meanwhile, expressed a personal advise to the detained ex-mayor.

So diyan ka na lang sa loob,'” the Senator said to the former mayor. MNP (with details from Rosalie Coz)
