The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has completed the construction of classrooms in Amulung National High School and a road-widening project in Cagayan.

DPWH Secretary Mark A. Villar cited the completion of a 4.23 kilometers road widening project funded under the 2018 Regular Infrastructure Fund. This is based on the report submitted by District Engineer Danilo U. Tabilas of DPWH-Cagayan Third District Engineering Office (DPWH-CTDEO).

The construction of a two-storey school building, which consists of eight classrooms, has also been completed. According to Villar, this aims to increase the number of students for the incoming school years.

“These new, sturdy, and comfortable classrooms will cater a total of 400 students and provide a conducive learning environment that will enable both teachers and students to exhibit their full potential,” he said.—AAC

DPWH inaugurates NLEX interchange near SEA Games opening venue

Robie de Guzman   •   November 26, 2019

MANILA, Philippines – The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) on Tuesday inaugurated the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX)-Philippine Arena Interchange, which will be used by the delegates to access the venue for the opening ceremony of the 30th Southeast Asian (SEA) Games.

The DPWH said the Ciudad de Victoria Interchange Overpass Bridge and Bypass road is seen to help address the heavy traffic flow of vehicles entering the Bocaue interchange, as well as reduce travel time to the town of Sta. Maria in Bulacan from 50 minutes to 15 minutes.

DPWH Secretary Mark Villar led the inaugural drive-thru of the new road with Senators Joel Villanueva and Francis Tolentino, Bulacan Governor Daniel Fernando, Bocaue Mayor Joni Villanueva and other local officials.

Villar said that the construction of the bypass road and bridge, which started January this year, was fast-tracked in time for the opening ceremony of the 30th SEA Games on Saturday, November 30, 2019 at the Philippine Arena.

“Efficient roadways and increased road capacity will do a great deal in the success of the opening rites for the Philippines hosting of biennial multi-sport event involving participants from the 11 countries of Southeast Asia”, Villar was quoted as saying in a statement issued by the department.

The DPWH chief said the P260-million road project which connects to the Manila North Road and Sta. Maria-Bocaue bypass road will serve as an alternate road to the heavily congested Governor F. Halili Road in Sta. Maria, Bulacan.

“With our anticipation on the volume of vehicles and traffic jams during the opening ceremony, the bypass road shall provide ease of transport to delegates who will be competing for the pride of their respective countries,” Villar said.

After the games’ opening rites, the road will be closed again to resume remaining work on the interchange, which includes the construction of additional lanes of the bridge structure at the Bocaue interchange.

The DPWH also said that for the next phase of the project, it will improve the 1.91-kilometer road from MacArthur Highway to Bocaue Municipal, and build a 1.3-kilometer road from the Philippine Arena to the existing Patubig Road in Marilao, Bulacan.

DWPH completes P40-M flood control structure in Leyte

Robie de Guzman   •   November 15, 2019

The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) announced that it has completed the construction of a new flood control structure in Alangalang town in Leyte.

In a statement released on Thursday , the DPWH said the new structure is designed to protect residents as the municipality is highly susceptible to flooding.

“The five-meter-high flood control wall was built to protect lives and properties by containing the waters which may rise to minimal levels during extreme weather events,” DPWH Secretary Mark Villar was quoted as saying.

In can be recalled that in 2018, a number of families from Barangay Salvacion and nearby barangays in Alangalang had to be evacuated after floodwaters brought about by Tropical Depression Agaton inundated eight towns in Leyte province.

Villar said a total of P40.95 Million was allocated under the 2018 General Appropriations Act (GAA) for the construction of the new 168-meter riprap and revetment wall in Barangay Salvacion in the town of Alangalang, Leyte.
