PNP to replace CITF with IMEG to monitor corrupt cops

Aileen Cerrudo   •   June 14, 2019

The Philippine National Police (PNP) will create a new task force to replace the Counter-Intelligence Task Force (CITF) in order to pin down corrupt cops.

The PNP has launched the Integrity Monitoring and Enforcement Group (IMEG) as part of the plan to strengthen their campaign against corrupt policemen.

PNP Chief PGen. Oscar Albayalde said the new task force will focus on all erring policemen including those involved in illegal drugs.

“It will be as relentless as the first day that we launched our campaign against illegal drugs, hindi magbabago iyan. Walang aabuso na pulis, hindi lang pang aabuso, pati iyong mga mai-involve sa korapsyon, (That will not change. No cop will abuse [their authority], this also include cops involved in corruption),” he said.

The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Eduardo Año said they are serious in cleansing the whole police ranks.

“We upgraded the CITF into a group so meaning to say more resources, more people, and more authority, because we are serious in cleansing the ranks of the policemen,” he said.

The IMEG, according to Albayalde will still be headed by PCol. Romeo Caramat. It will also need new equipment and personnel for a more comprehensive cleansing.(with reports from Lea Ylagan)
