MANILA, Philippines — The Commission on Elections (Comelec) is set to serve Friday (November 12) the summons it issued Thursday to the petitioners and the respondent in the disqualification case against presidential aspirant Ferdinand ‘Bongbong’ Marcos, Jr.

This was confirmed by Comelec spokesperson Director James Jimenez this morning.

“Summons was issued yesterday and are expected to be served today. We are awaiting proof of service,” Jimenez said.

Jimenez added that once Marcos receives the summons, he shall have five days to counter the petition filed against him which seeks the cancellation of his certificate of candidacy (COC) for the 2022 national and local elections.

“Upon receipt of the summons, the respondent will have five days to file an answer,” he said.

His response must be sent through electronic mail addressed to the commission’s office of the Clerk.

Should Marcos fail to send his reply, he will forfeit the opportunity to present evidence to refute the complaint against him or to file his argument on the matter.

UNTV News and Rescue sought verification from the Marcos camp as to whether they have already received the summon. They have yet to reply as of this writing.

However, Atty. Vic Rodriguez, Marcos’ spokesperson, has earlier stated that they will respond to the petition at the proper time and forum. —/mbmf (from the report of UNTV Correspondent Dante Amento)

Cusi-led PDP-LABAN wing adopts Sara Duterte as VP bet

Robie de Guzman   •   January 21, 2022

MANILA, Philippines – The PDP-Laban faction led by Energy Secretary Alfonso Cusi on Friday said it has adopted Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio as its vice presidential candidate for the May 2022 national elections.

In a statement, the PDP-Laban wing said it is already finalizing the terms of its alliance agreement with Lakas-CMD party, which is chaired by Mayor Sara.

“The decision to adopt Mayor Sara has been made by the PDP-Laban National Executive Committee based on her credentials, advocacies, and vision for our nation,” the group said.

“Based on these, the PDP-Laban has decided that the quality of her advocacies and vision are strongly aligned with that of the party,” it added.

The group also said that Sara Duterte-Carpio’s leadership and track record “make her most qualified for the position she is now aspiring for and therefore deserves the party’s support.”

It also expressed its belief that Sara’s election to the vice presidency “will help ensure the continuity of the vital programs of the current administration.”

Sara Duterte-Carpio and the Lakas-CMD have yet to issue a statement on the matter.

While it adopted Mayor Sara, the Cusi-led faction left out her running mate, former Senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.

The group said it is still in the process of evaluating who among the presidential candidates would best continue the programs of the Duterte administration.

It will also consider President Rodrigo Duterte’s personal pick for president in deciding who to support for the presidency, it added.
